EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County Commissioners have raised concerns over the rising number of migrant deaths in the region, attributing more than 100 deaths to individuals attempting to enter the United States through illegal means.
County Commissioner David Stout, who represents Central and South Central El Paso, said, "The reason why this is happening is completely political. It's because we have elected officials at the state and federal level that are not willing to do anything other than deterrence and enforcement only when it comes to border policies and immigration policies."
During a recent meeting, Stout criticized the lengthy process the U.S. employs to allow migrants into the country, arguing that it compels individuals to resort to alternative methods, including human smuggling, to cross the border.
