Mountain Lions will host Tug Valley today in state title game rematch.
ELKINS — The Tucker County vs. Elkins High School boys basketball game slated for this evening at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium has been postponed.
The Class A, top-ranked Mountain Lions, however, will still be in action, weather pending, with a home contest against No. 2 Tug Valley in a rematch of last year’s state title game — won by the Panthers.
The junior varsity game tips off at 1 p.m., followed by varsity play.
Tucker County is off to a 7-0 start to the young season, defeating No. 4 East Hardy, 59-40, in its last outing on Dec. 30 as all-stater Trevan Bonner poured in 20 points and junior Mikey Mitchell added 10.
Bonner, a senior guard, is averaging nearly 20 points per game. Senior Garrett Wilfong and Mitchell are hitting for 18.4 and 11.9 points per game, respectively.
Tug Valley enters the contest with a 4-1 mark, dropping a 59-57 decision to Phelps (Ky.) back on Dec. 28 in its last game.
The Elkins-Tucker game will be played at a later date.
Other boys games postponed on Friday due to the weather included Tygarts Valley at Clay-Battelle (rescheduled for Jan. 15) and Calvary Christian at Harman.
Girls games postponed included Tucker County at Moorefield (rescheduled for Tuesday) and Calvary Christian at Harman.
Boys contests tentatively slated for today include Philip Barbour at Petersburg and Pendleton County at Notre Dame, while the Petersburg girls are scheduled to host Frankfort.
