House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock will lead as Supergirl in the new DC film.
If all goes well, DC Studios will finally be able to put a name to who will direct their forthcoming Supergirl film which will star House of the Dragon breakout star Milly Alcock in the titular role.
Craig Gillespie of I, Tonya is in the final stages of discussion with the makers to helm the film by Warner Bros.’ DC Studios.
The film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the DC comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It’s set to shoot later this year after James Gunn’s Superman wraps filming.
Milly Alcock was announced to lead Supergirl earlier this year. She competed and bagged the role after beating several other contenders. She was finalised after an extensive casting process.
Announcing that they have their Supergirl, James Gunn had said earlier, “Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics. I was watching ‘House of the Dragon’ and thought she might have the edge, grace and authenticity we needed.”
Gunn has previously teased that the new take on the superhero will be “much more hardcore” than previous interpretations of the character.
On what’s going to be different this time around, he added, “She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.” Notably, he has been saying the same for almost all characters in the DC Universe, ever since he’s taken over as the boss.

In the new iteration, Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge.
Gunn and Safran are producing it while Chantal Nong will executive produce with Ana Nogueira writing the screenplay.
