Earlier today, DirecTV announced the launch of MyHome Team. The new service will provide sports fans access to Regional Sports Networks in major markets across the country. The announcement comes in the aftermath of DirecTV’s launch of its MySports Genre Pack in January. As consumers continue to drop their cable subscription, it the latest example of DirecTV providing skinny bundles, with targeted programming genres available, at a lower cost to their subscribers.
At its debut, MyHome Team will have live sports from 20 RSN’s or team-specific channels from MLB, NBA and NHL teams available locally. As a result, MyHome Team will include in-market games from 37 professional franchises in the U.S. including 12 MLB teams, 15 NBA teams and 10 NHL teams. There are plans to expand into other markets as more agreements with RSN’s and dedicated team channels are completed.
The MySports Genre Pack has over 20 national sports and broadcast channels including MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network and NHL Network as well as sports programming from ABC, ESPN, TBS, TNT, TruTV and ESPN+. The monthly cost for a MySports subscription is $69.99.
For an additional $12.99 per month DirecTV offers subscribers a MySports Extra Mini-Pack that includes Motor Trend, NFL Red Zone and Willow TV. MyHome Team is also available as an add-on for MySports users at an additional monthly fee of $19.99.
The RSN’s and dedicated team channels available at the launch include Altitude Sports and Entertainment (servicing Denver and other regional cities), Chicago Sports Network and Marquee Sports Network (including Chicago), all the FanDuel Sports Networks (including Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, Oklahoma City, Orlando, San Antonio, St. Louis, Tampa, and several others), and the recently created Rangers Sports Network (including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and others).
Since RSN’s are geofenced, DirecTV subscribers will have to enter their zip code to determine the local games available in the area. In addition, MyHome Team provides subscribers with access to news and commentary from teams outside their region.
In a press release, Vince Torres chief market officer at DirecTV said, "MyHome Team delivers unmatched flexibility and control for a local sports enthusiast to tune in and watch their teams whenever they want, whether that’s all season long or during portions of the season. With industry-leading features like Sports Mode, Game Time Notifications, Pre-Game Stats and Live Scores included, DirecTV customers can stream their local team satellite-free and never miss a play."
As the cable bundle continues to be broken up, DirecTV is offering four separate genre packs. Besides MySports, the satellite company offers subscribers MyEntertainment (including a MyCinema mini-pack), My News and MiEspañol. All four genre packs provide viewers with smaller number of channels at a lower monthly subscription fee. In addition, subscribers have the option to mix and match the Genre Packs and Mini-Packs as add-ons.
At their launch the 37 teams that are a part of MyHome Team are:
MLB: Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers
NBA: Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs
NHL: Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning
The launch comes when the 2024-25 NBA and NHL regular seasons are winding down and Opening Day of the 2025 MLB season is starting. This season 22 MLB teams will be streaming games locally, up from 13 last season.
