MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WXOW) – Aquinas boys soccer had a great run to the WIAA Division 4 State Tournament, but came up short by losing 1-0 on Thursday to Shoreland Lutheran.
Senior goalkeeper Jackson Knothe of the Blugolds had several great stops, most notably in the 1st half. He finished with six saves.
In the 52nd minute, Riley Strassburg send a feed into the box. It bounced right to Owen Hahm of the Pacers, resulting in the only goal of the match.
Aquinas struggled to earn scoring chances, only mustering two shots on goal.
This is Aquinas’ 5th trip to state. They are still looking for their first championship.
“Its been awesome,” Knothe said. “Our goal was to get to state. We know the final goal is to win state, but we had to play a really good team. We held them to as few of opportunities as we could. I think we played as best we could. They got the golden opportunity.”
“I think for a bit, we were a little flustered on how quick the game is,” Head Coach Ryan Capwell said. “This is a big field. We’re not used to that. Those opportunities were limited for us. We tried some things and we found a couple opportunities. We knew coming in we weren’t going to get a ton. When we are given those opportunities, can we get one in. Unfortunately, we couldn’t today.”
Shoreland Lutheran will face Lake Country Lutheran in Saturday’s championship match.
