Conan O’Brien is returning to the Oscars stage in 2026. The late-night host and comedian will preside over the 98th Academy Awards, set for March 15, the film academy’s leadership said Monday.
“The only reason I’m hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech,” O’Brien said in a statement.
This year was O’Brien’s first time leading the show, which attracted its biggest broadcast audience in five years despite the winning movie, “Anora,” being relatively small. An estimated 19.7 million viewers watched the 97th Academy Awards ceremony earlier this month, according to broadcaster ABC, with a big lift among people aged 18 to 49, driven by mobile and laptop watches from younger viewers. It was also the most watched prime-time entertainment show of 2025.
“Conan’s unique comedic style perfectly captured the moment, and I’m excited to have his talents back onstage next year to helm another indelible performance,” said Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group, in a statement.
Next year O’Brien will also be surrounded by a familiar team, with Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan returning as executive producers of the show and Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney as producers. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a joint statement that it’s an honor to be working again with the group behind this year’s broadcast.
“This year, they produced a hugely entertaining and visually stunning show that celebrated our nominees and the global film community in the most beautiful and impactful way,” Kramer and Yang said. “Conan was the perfect host — skillfully guiding us through the evening with humor, warmth and reverence.”
The show also succeeded in social media metrics, outperforming both the Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl, according to Oscars organizers. This was the first time that the show was streamed live simultaneously on Hulu, which was not without its glitches.
The timing of the announcement of next year's hosting and producing teams — less than a month after this year's Oscars — is unusually early for the film academy and ABC.

Sir Elton John is struggling to sign autographs.
The 77-year-old music legend lost the vision in his right eye because of an infection and now, according to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column, he has had to "simplify" his usual signature for the special edition of his new album 'Who Believes In Angels?'
Now, the 'Crocodile Rock' hitmaker will sign his autograph simply as his initial of E, and will complete it with the letter X which represents a kiss.
In early December, Elton revealed that he hadn't been able to "see" his new musical 'The Devil Wears Prada' properly, but said the cast "sounded great" as he attended a charity gala event put on by the stage adaptation of the 2006 flick in aid of the Elton John AIDS Foundation at London's Dominion Theatre.
Wearing oversized, red-tinted spectacles, Elton – who is married to David Furnish – said: "As some of you may know I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven't been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it."
Praising his spouse, he added: "To my husband who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews… it’s hard for me to see it but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight OK. Thank you for coming!"
Prior to that, the 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' singer revealed that he had spent the summer battling an infection and while he has "hope" he will be able to see properly again eventually, he's currently unable to work on new music because of the limitations with his vision.
He told 'Good Morning America': "It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just have to get off my backside
“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France.
“It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest.
“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but I’m kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Because I can’t see a lyric for start.”

Iron Maiden will release a new documentary film featuring the final interview from former frontman Paul Di’Anno.
The new film will be released to celebrate 50 years since the English heavy metal band was formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. the documentary has been made in collaboration with Universal Pictures Content Group.
The film will go through the band's 50 year history from the perspective of both the band and some of their longstanding superfans, including celebrities such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich and Gene Simmons.
It will feature interviews with band members, including original vocalist, Paul Di’Anno who died last year.
According to the press release: "The film also explores the cultural movement Iron Maiden has helped shape and their enduring legacy in both music and fan culture, challenging common perceptions of the wider significance of rock music and heavy metal."

An examination of the dog found dead along with actor Gene Hackman and his wife in their Santa Fe home shows dehydration and starvation were likely what led to the animal’s demise.
A report obtained by The Associated Press from the state Department of Agriculture's veterinary lab details partial mummification and noted that while the severe decomposition could have obscured changes in the organs, there was no evidence of infectious disease, trauma or poisoning that could have resulted in death.
The report noted that the dog's stomach was mostly empty except for small amounts of hair and bile.
The kelpie mix named Zinna was one of the couple’s three dogs. It was found dead in a crate in a bathroom closet near Betsy Arakawa’s body, while two other dogs survived.
Authorities confirmed last week that Hackman died of heart disease with complications from Alzheimer’s disease about a week after a rare, rodent-borne disease — hantavirus pulmonary syndrome — took the life of his wife. Hackman, in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, apparently was unaware that his wife was dead.
Hackman was found in the home’s entryway, and Arakawa was found in a bathroom. Like the dog, their bodies were decomposing with some mummification, a consequence of body type and climate in Santa Fe’s especially dry air at an elevation of nearly 7,200 feet (2,200 meters).
While both deaths were ruled to be from natural causes, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office is finishing up the investigation by tying up the timeline with any information gleaned from the cellphones collected at the home and last contacts that were made.
“The case is considered active until we have that information to tie up the timeline,” said Denise Womack Avila, a spokesperson for the sheriff.
Zinnia went from being a returned shelter dog to an incredible companion that was always at Arakawa's side, said Joey Padilla, owner of the Santa Fe Tails pet care facility that was involved in the surviving dogs’ care.
Arakawa, born in Hawaii, studied as a concert pianist, attended the University of Southern California and met Hackman in the mid-1980s while working at a California gym.
Hackman, a Hollywood icon, won two Oscars during a storied career in films including “The French Connection,” “Hoosiers” and “Superman” from the 1960s until his retirement in the early 2000s.
The pair led a private life after moving to Santa Fe decades ago. A representative for the couple's estate has cited that privacy in seeking to block the public release of autopsy and investigative reports related to their deaths, especially photographs and video. It will be up to a state district judge to consider that request.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs returned to federal court in New York City on Friday, pleading not guilty to the latest version of an indictment charging him with two decades of sex trafficking crimes.
The 55-year-old Combs, his beard noticeably grayer than even weeks ago, stood with his hands folded before him as he told Judge Arun Subramanian that he had read the indictment and understood the charges against him.
Combs, who has been held without bail since his September arrest, hugged two of his lawyers as he entered the courtroom.
Subramanian told lawyers that questionnaires will be distributed to hundreds of prospective jurors at the end of April so that questioning of would-be jurors can begin on May 5, with opening statements expected to occur on May 12.
According to the indictment, Combs used the “power and prestige” he wielded as a music mogul to intimidate, threaten and lure women into his orbit, often under the pretense of a romantic relationship.
The indictment said he then used force, threats and coercion to cause victims, including the three women, to engage in commercial sex acts.
It said he subjected his victims to violence, threats of violence, threats of financial and reputational harm and verbal abuse.
“On multiple occasions, Combs threw both objects and people, as well as hit, dragged, choked and shoved others,” it said. “On one occasion, Combs dangled a victim over an apartment balcony.”
Defense lawyers have argued that prosecutors were trying to demonize sex acts between consenting adults.
Part of the discussion in court Friday revolved around what will be allowed at the trial regarding a video that aired on CNN last year that showed Combs punching his former protege and girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie, and throwing her on the floor in a hotel hallway.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitzi Steiner said the video was “critical to the case.”
Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo said the video was “deceptive and not in accordance with the actions that took place.”
He said certain actions were speeded up in the video by as much as 50 percent and others were taken out of order.
“From the defense standpoint, it’s a misleading piece of evidence, a deceptive piece of evidence, a piece of evidence that has been changed,” he said.
Combs blew kisses and waved to family members in the gallery as he was led out of the courtroom by marshals.

A representative for the estate of actor Gene Hackman is seeking to block the public release of autopsy and investigative reports — especially photographs and police body-camera video — related to the recent deaths of Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa after their partially mummified bodies were discovered at their New Mexico home last month.
Authorities last week announced that Hackman died at age 95 of heart disease with complications from Alzheimer’s disease as much as a week after a rare, rodent-borne disease — hantavirus pulmonary syndrome — took the life of his 65-year-old wife.
Hackman’s pacemaker last showed signs of activity on Feb. 18, indicating an abnormal heart rhythm on the day he likely died. The couple's bodies weren't discovered until Feb. 26 when maintenance and security workers showed up at the Santa Fe home and alerted police — leaving a mystery for law enforcement and medical investigators to unravel.
Julia Peters, a representative for the estate of Hackman and Arakawa, urged a state district court in Santa Fe to seal records in the cases to protect the family's right to privacy in grief under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution — emphasizing the possibly shocking nature of photographs and video in the investigation and potential for their dissemination by media.
The request, file Tuesday, also described the couple's discreet lifestyle in Santa Fe since Hackman's retirement. The state capital city is known as a refuge for celebrities, artists and authors.
The couple "lived an exemplary private life for over thirty years in Santa Fe, New Mexico and did not showcase their lifestyle,” said the petition.
New Mexico's open records law blocks public access to sensitive images, including depictions of people who are deceased, said Amanda Lavin, legal director at the nonprofit New Mexico Foundation for Open Government. Some medical information also is not considered public record under the state Inspection of Public Records Act.
At the same time, the bulk of death investigations by law enforcement and autopsy reports by medical investigators are typically considered public records under state law in the spirit of ensuring government transparency and accountability, she said.
“I do think it does infringe on transparency if the court were to prohibit release of all the investigation records, including the autopsies,” Lavin said Thursday. “The whole idea of those records being available is to ensure accountability in the way those investigations are done.”
“There is also a public health concern given that hantavirus was involved,” Lavin said.
She said the preemptive request to prevent the release of government records on constitutional grounds is unusual.

Jack Quaid has admitted filming the final season of 'The Boys' is "bittersweet.
The 32-year-old actor – who plays vigilante Hughie Campbell in the superhero series – is having fun shooting the show out in Toronto but he isn't looking forward to having to say goodbye to the rest of the cast and crew when filming wraps for good on the fifth series.

Lionsgate executive Jenefer Brown has revealed that a fifth 'John Wick' movie is in development.
The future of the action franchise had been uncertain after Keanu Reeves' titular hitman seemingly died in the 2023 movie 'John Wick: Chapter 4' but the studio chief has revealed that another film is in the pipeline.
Discussing the future of the series with ComicBook.com, Brown said: "This world continues to grow and expand in incredible ways.
"Up next, of course, we have 'Ballerina', which is our first spin-off movie and (we) can't wait for that to release to the world. Of course, we've announced we're working on a fifth 'John Wick' film. I think there are more spin-offs to come, a TV series, video game."
The Lionsgate boss added: "We've shared that we're developing a fifth 'John Wick' film… (John Wick) may be (dead). We are all on baited breath waiting to find out."
The revelation comes after Keanu, 60, dismissed the prospect of another movie following the character's death.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, he said: "You know, the character’s dead. He died in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’."
'The Matrix' star insisted that he wasn't involved in discussions about a possible resurrection for the assassin.
When asked if there was a plan to revive John Wick, Keanu replied: "Right now? Right now there isn’t."
Producer Erica Lee previously admitted that "the stars have to align" if a fifth film is to be made.
She told Screen Rant: "I think we set this bar so high in ['John Wick: Chapter 4'] and we left it all on the table. I say we burn the house down when we make the movie.
"So I think to pull it all together, it has to be a great idea and the stars have to align, and there's a lot of pressure to get that right.

The spin-off movie 'Ballerina' is slated for release this summer but lead actress Ana de Armas claims that her character Eve Macarro is different from John Wick.
She told Collider: "I think there are some trademarks in the style of the fights in John Wick, and things that he does that are very particular to him. But because in this movie we’re seeing through Eve’s eyes the background of that training that John had, and how these assassins and ballerinas, how these people become these assassins, there are some little details that are the same, but Eve Macarro is Eve Macarro. She’s not John Wick!"
Ana explained that she became "really good at kicking" as a result of her rigorous training process for the action flick.
The 36-year-old star said: "Through the training process and rehearsals, we kind of built these fights and tailored them to the things that I would do best. I was really good at kicking, and also because I’m a 'ballerina', I’m supposed to be good at kicking; I was really good at close fights, like with knives and things like that."

A woman who accused Jay-Z of sexually assaulting her when she was just 13 has been recorded admitting he "didn't have anything to do" with what happened to her.
The 55-year-old star and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs were accused by an unnamed woman of drugging and raping her at an after-party for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City when she was a teenager, but the lawsuit was dismissed last month and now ABC News have shared a discussion between the accuser, who is identified only as Jane Doe, and two private investigators.
In the recording, the investigator asked: "He was just there, but he didn't have anything to do with any sexual acts towards you?"
The woman replied: "Yeah."
She then claimed her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, "pushed" her into taking action against the '99 Problems' hitmaker, whose real name is Shawn Carter.
She could be heard saying: "He was the one that kind of pushed me towards going forward with him, with Jay-Z."
The investigators asked: "Buzbee did?"
She confirmed: "Yeah".
But the lawyer insisted the idea he pushed Jane Doe into suing Jay – who has three children with wife Beyonce – is a "blatant lie".
He told ABC News in a statement: "As far as the suggestion that I pushed Jane Doe to bring a case against Jay Z – That is a blatant lie that is directly contrary to all the documentary evidence."
The Roc Nation boss' own attorney, Alex Spiro, insisted "the tape speaks for itself" and should leave no one in doubt about Jay's innocence.
He told the network: "She says in no uncertain terms Mr. Carter did not do this. It's effectively a lie and the only reason Mr. Carter is even involved in this is because she was pushed to involve him."
In a sworn declaration, the accuser has insisted she stands by her claims and only dropped her lawsuit due to "fear of intimidation and retaliation from Jay-Z" and his fans.
She denied telling the investigators Buzbee had sought her out as a client or encouraged her to pursue a false claim but argued she felt "intimidated and terrified" at being confronted on her doorstep.
But Spiro insisted the investigators didn't coerce or threaten the woman.
He said: "She voluntarily met and spoke to them and she told them her truth, which was under no circumstances did Mr. Carter do this, and number two the only reason he’s even involved in this is she was pushed to introduce him by a lawyer.
“Mr. Carter doesn’t know Jane Doe, never met Jane Doe. There’s no truth to any of this.”
Jay is suing both his accuser and her lawyer for defamation, which they have denied, and is ready to "move forward" with his life.
His lawyer said: "It's tough to hear a false lie said about you, spread through the internet, and affecting your children.
"It's tough on him. It's tough on anybody. But what he does is he proves himself innocent. Today is hopefully the final chapter in that. And then they're gonna move forward. That's what Jay does.
"The truth had to fully come out. This person cannot be allowed to sort of hide from the reality that this was a false accusation."
In Jay's lawsuit, he claimed the allegations of rape against him were knowingly "false" and "malicious" and accused the woman and his lawyers of having "launched to extort" him "through a menacing 'private' 'demand letter'."

Harvey Weinstein 's #MeToo retrial next month will largely be an abridged version of the original, with one big addition: a charge based on an allegation from a woman who wasn’t a part of the first case.
Just how the reprise of the disgraced movie mogul's prosecution plays out is coming into focus at a hearing Wednesday, where a judge is set to issue rulings on a variety of issues, including the scope of accuser testimony and potential expert witnesses.
Weinstein, 72, was in court for the hearing, which started more than a hour late after Judge Curtis Farber met with the prosecution and defense behind closed doors to discuss matters still under seal.
Those included a prosecution request that two of the three accusers in the case be allowed to testify about other alleged encounters with Weinstein. They also discussed evidence of the accusers' sexual history, which prosecutors say should be barred under New York's Rape Shield Law.
Weinstein’s retrial is scheduled to start April 15 in state court in Manhattan — nearly a year after New York’s highest court overturned his 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges.
At his last court appearance, in January, Weinstein implored Farber to start the retrial sooner. He told the judge “I don’t know how much longer I can hold on” with cancer, heart issues and harsh conditions at New York City’s Rikers Island jail complex, where he is locked up.
Weinstein arrived to court Wednesday in a wheelchair, wearing a suit and holding a stack of documents. Before his hearing began, the ex-studio boss watched from behind the defense table as Farber spent a few minutes resolving another matter that had been delayed by their closed-door discussions.
Weinstein is being retried on charges that he forcibly performed oral sex on a movie and TV production assistant in 2006 and raped an aspiring actor in 2013. The additional charge, filed last September, alleges he forced oral sex on a different woman at a Manhattan hotel in 2006.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office said in court papers that the woman, who has not been identified publicly, came forward to prosecutors just days before the start of Weinstein’s first trial but was not part of that case.
Prosecutors said they did not pursue the women’s allegations after Weinstein was convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison, but they revisited them and secured a new indictment after the state’s Court of Appeals threw out his conviction last April.
Farber ruled in October to combine the new indictment and existing charges into one trial.
Weinstein’s lawyers contend that prosecutors prejudiced him by waiting nearly five years to bring the additional charge, suggesting they had elected not to include the allegation in his first trial so they could use it later if his conviction were reversed.
Weinstein has denied that he raped or sexually assaulted anyone.
Last month, Weinstein added Jennifer Bonjean, a lawyer who has represented Bill Cosby and R. Kelly, to a legal team that includes defense attorneys Arthur Aidala, Diana Fabi Samson and former judge Barry Kamins.
In vacating Weinstein’s conviction, the Court of Appeals ruled that the trial judge, James M. Burke, unfairly allowed testimony against him based on allegations from other women that were not part of the case. Burke is no longer on the bench and such testimony won't be part of the retrial.
Weinstein was convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 of another rape. His 16-year prison sentence in that case still stands, but his lawyers appealed in June, arguing he did not get a fair trial.
