Heather Watson is always playing with new recipes and flavors. This is how she keeps things fresh at For Goodness Cakes in Michigan Center.
Watson opened the bakery’s storefront in September 2022. She adds to her menu with rotating cupcakes, cookies, brownies, cake pops and cheesecakes, she said.
“I feel like a mad scientist back here playing with stuff,” Watson said.

Jackson YMCA opens new wellness center, lobby with more to come in 2025
Since breaking ground in January 2024, construction at the new Jackson YMCA has been making good progress.
The Y at 127 W. Wesley St. has been working on a $25 million capital campaign since 2017 to create a reimagined facility.
Phase one of the project completed near the end of 2024, and phase two is underway. So far, members have enjoyed the new, completed amenities, CEO Shawna Tello said.

While Shawn and Francine Ruddock live in Florida, they spend a lot of their time with family in Michigan.
After hearing from Albion residents that there was a need for a place to grab breakfast, they decided it was a good chance for them to invest in the downtown. Since March, the two have worked to open Trackside Eatery & Pub, which is now ready to feed customers.
The eatery opened two weeks ago and has been busy since, Francine said. The Ruddocks pride themselves in serving elevated comfort food, Shawn said.

Chick-fil-A anticipates spring opening in Jackson
Progress is underway to construct a new fast-food eatery for hungry Jacksonians.
Popular chain Chick-fil-A announced it was opening a new location in Jackson in September of 2024. Since, construction has been moving along quickly, and the new restaurant is expected to open in the spring, a Chick-fil-A, Inc. spokesperson wrote in an email.
