NEW YORK CITY (TNND) — Radio host Charlamagne tha God said Friday former President Barack Obama’s conversation with President-elect Donald Trump at former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral was “terrible political optics.”
The host of “The Breakfast Club,” whose legal name is Lenard McKelvey, pointed during his show to Obama’s comments while campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris, when he warned about a second term for Trump.
“After you went so hard, you know, calling somebody a threat to democracy and calling somebody a fascist, and now you just, you know, chummy-chummy with the man – you told us he was a threat to democracy,” McKelvey noted. “To me, that’s just terrible political optics.”
Obama and Trump smiled and appeared to laugh while talking to each other at the state funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. At campaign events for Harris last year, the 44th president called Trump dangerous.
“All I’m saying is it just looks like terrible political optics after you’ve, you know, used such crazy-a– rhetoric against him,” McKelvey added. “And by the way, I’m a person that’s called him a fascist too, but not because of what Democrats said, but because of what I heard coming out of his mouth."
It looked like Obama was “kissing the ring” of Trump, according to McKelvey.
“You got the last real leader of the Democratic Party, Barack Obama, laughing and giggling with Trump,” he claimed.
Trump has previously threatened to incarcerate his political rivals, which some Democrats talked about last year.
“If you really believe – because this is what they said – if you believe that this person is gonna jail his political opponents, and you believe this person is gonna seek revenge against his political opponents, you’d probably be in their kekeing too,” McKelvey noted.
