FAIRMONT– More than 100 people turned out for the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting and banquet Friday night. There, several area businesses were recognized for their contributions to the community.
The banquet, held at Green Mill in Fairmont, served as a time for the chamber to recognize its three employees, 13 member board and three member executive board, as well as the area businesses, especially those up for awards. The categories this year included large business, small business, rising star and community champion, which was a new addition this year.
Midco, STEP, Recovery in Motion, United Hospital District and Jake’s Pizza were up for large business of the year.
Sovell Jewelry, Indulge & Co., Sentinel and Doolittle’s Carpet and Paint were up for small business of the year.
Jeff Sauer-Edge Home Financial, Recovery in Motion, Triple H Financial Services, Silo 67 and Canna Culture were up for rising star.
Zach Taylor with Recovery in Motion, Laura Spitzer with Indulge & Co., Tim Murray with Bravo Zulu House and Steve Hawkins with Project 1590 were up for community champion.
Ultimately, Jake’s Pizza, Indulge & Co., Silo 67 and Laura Spitzer won in their respective categories. The chamber’s president, Kandi Menne, said that more than 1,200 votes were cast throughout the process in selecting the winners.
In addition to honoring the chamber’s staff and board, as well as the winners, guests were entertained by Neon Unicorns, a lively and educational duo based out of Fargo, N.D. and enjoyed a buffet. There were also prizes for best dressed that fit the 80s theme and a raffle.
The Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce has 217 member businesses and organizations across 50 industry sectors, representing individual members and businesses of more than 100 employees.
Of the event, Menne said, “It was a fantastic night of fun, collaboration, inspiration and learning. We had some new people that were nominated and came and I think everyone had fun. It’s all about growing our community.”
