With Centerville Road closed this weekend as construction crews work to widen a Norfolk Southern Railway crossing, businesses and commuters have been forced to make adjustments.
Crews have shut down Centerville Road just south of the Route 30 interchange between Old Tree Drive and a point south of Hempland Road till 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Traffic traveling south on Centerville Road from Route 30 has been detoured to turn right on Hempland Road, left on Donerville Road and left on Columbia Avenue (Route 462) before returning to Centerville Road.
Northbound vehicles traveling on South Centerville Road will turn left on Columbia Avenue, right on Donerville Road, and right on Hempland Road before returning to Centerville Road.

A LNP | Lancaster Online reporter who drove the detour from both directions Saturday morning found traffic to be moving steadily.
Traffic was congested in only two areas around 10:30 a.m. Near the Route 30 interchange, members of the construction crew were directing traffic toward the detour, causing some short delays as drivers attempted to find their way around. Additionally, at the intersection of North Donerville Road and Columbia Avenue a long line of cars had formed at the traffic light.
In total, the reporter estimated an additional 5 to 10 minutes was added to a typical commute through the area.
Prior to the road being closed, business owners on Centerville road expressed concern that the closure could affect their weekend operations.
“Saturdays are always our busiest days, and it did feel like things were a little slower today,” said an employee of Grand Central Bagel Cafe. “There’s probably a lot of folks who didn’t want to bother with the detour.”
The breakfast and lunch spot is located close to the road closure at 245 Centerville Road.
An employee with That Pet Place – That Fish place said the road closure just north of the pet store had not significantly affected business and a large number of customers had come to the store Saturday for a meet-and-greet event with Reptile Invasion, a York county-based reptile rescue.
PennDOT reported that there had been no issues with construction or major traffic issues regarding the detour.
“The work is on track and traffic is flowing well through the area,” a PennDOT spokesperson said in a statement sent Saturday.
