As 2024 comes to a close, CCX Sports takes a look back at some of the memorable high school sports stories in the northwest suburbs this year.
Champlin Park Volleyball won their first section title in six years and were class AAAA state tournament runner-up.
In prep basketball, both the Providence Academy girls team and the Totino-Grace boys team three-peated as state champions.
The Lions won their third straight class AA state title by beating Albany in a thrilling 81-78 win and the Eagles claimed their third consecutive AAA championship with a 73-64 win over Mankato East.
Totino-Grace also earned another state championship in the spring with the Eagles baseball team winning their first-ever state baseball title. TG only gave up one run in their state tournament run and defeated Mahtomedi in the class AAA state championship game.
Maple Grove football went unbeaten for the second time in three years and took home another Class 6A Prep Bowl championship.
The Crimson defeated Eden Prairie, Edina, Shakopee, and Minnetonka in their final four playoff games, led by first-year head coach Adam Spurrell.
Elsewhere in prep football, the Hopkins football team snapped a 29-game losing streak that spanned three seasons when they beat Eastview on September 13th.
For the seniors in the Royals football program, it was just their second win they’ve experienced since starting tackle football in third grade.
Hopkins added wins the next two weeks and finished 3-6.
