Local business and city officials gather for a March 28 groundbreaking ceremony for the Parkway Plaza shopping center located on the Vintage Village Parkway in Zillah.
Local business leaders and Zillah city officials recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Parkway Plaza, a new shopping area planned between Interstate 82 and the Vintage Valley Parkway, creating a vibrant hub for commerce.
“Timing is everything and our recently completed Vintage Valley Parkway stretches out like a red carpet,” Zillah Mayor Scott Carmack said at the March 28 event. “Zillah is open for business, and we have a very captive audience with over 460,000 potential customers within a 50-mile radius.”
Totaling 15,000 square feet, the Parkway Plaza will include a mix of retail stores, restaurants and professional office spaces, all available for lease, said Jesus Gonzalez, general manager of CRC Construction.
He said the plaza will be at 1004 Vintage Valley Parkway next to Buhrmaster Bakery and across from Yakima Chief Ranches. Land clearing and other on-site construction is underway, and the first building is scheduled to be completed in October.
“My wife, Nicole, and I would like to thank all the city officials and staff who helped make this possible, along with our dedicated design and construction team,” Gonzalez added. “It is truly beautiful to see this positive vision for community and commerce come to life.”
The Vintage Valley Parkway is a 3-mile-long corridor along I-82 that begins and ends near two highway interchanges. It was dedicated and opened in November 2022 with lighting and walking trails to connect business storefronts and the existing and new homes planned at nearby Zillah Lakes.
The Sunnyside Sun has been purchased by two of its employees after five years of ownership by publisher Andy McNab.
The newspaper’s Media Director Ileana Martinez and General Manager Job Wise finalized a purchase agreement this week that will take effect May 1, according to a news release.
McNab, an Idaho resident and former newspaper publisher, praised Martinez and Wise’s work at the paper, congratulated the new owners and urged Sunnyside residents to support the publication. McNab was a previous publisher of the Goldendale Sentinel.
Wise and Martinez both have more than a decade of experience at the Sun and live in Sunnyside. Martinez is a graduate of Sunnyside High School. Both said they planned to continue the paper’s work and focus on serving the Sunnyside community.
Wise and Martinez purchased the Sun using a $50,000 loan from the city of Sunnyside’s Revolving Loan Fund.
There will be an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. May 1 and a grand reopening at 3 p.m. May 24 at the Sunnyside Sun’s office on Sixth Street.
