Here are five things in business tech news that happened this week and how they affect your business. Did you miss them?
Brad Chacos of PCWorld listed their picks for best hardware and software of 2024-2025. (Source: PCWorld)
Regardless of your business you want to buy the best stuff, right? This list includes laptops, desktops, chips, password managers, VPNs, backup software and other essential technologies you’ll need. It’s a great roundup and one that I’m bookmarking to refer back to as we make hardware and software purchases during the year.
They’re back! Katherine Stevenson of PCWorld presented her list of the best work from home tech based on personal testing by the magazine’s staff. (Source: PCWorld)
I include this because so many entrepreneurs, freelancers and employees of larger companies are working from home and shouldn’t they be using the best? Here you can choose from budget laptops with long battery life, Chromebooks, keyboards, docking stations and other essential tools for your work-from-home employees and remote workers.
QuickBooks Online Accountant has introduced new features – automated call summaries and live cleanup services. (Source: Accounting Today)
If you’re running an accounting practice and use QuickBooks Online for your clients these are important features to leverage. If you’re running a business it’s also important to make sure your accountant is aware of these tools as it will save them time and hopefully billable hours. The call summaries provide detailed logs of support calls between clients and QuickBooks Live Experts, helping clients keep track of questions and responses for future reference. The live cleanup service helps prepare clients’ books for tax season by categorizing transactions, checking for any errors, and reconciling accounts to ensure accuracy. Clean-ups are typically performed within 30 days with access to a QuickBooks-certified bookkeeper. These features are available through QuickBooks Online Accountant with a 30 percent discount for ProAdvisors.
LinkedIn has introduced the Companies Hub within its Campaign Manager. (Source: Digital Marketing News)
According to LinkedIn, this new feature provides B2B marketers with deeper insights into how companies engage with their brand as detailed in the Company Engagement Report. Marketers can now sort, filter, and review metrics like engagement levels, organic and paid interactions, company data, and campaign performance. They can also create audiences based on these insights before launching campaigns and track advertising impact and engagement post-campaign. Companies Hub is available globally and aims to help marketers plan and measure their efforts. LinkedIn advertising is expensive, but you do get what you pay for. LinkedIn’s community is a valuable audience for anyone selling B2B. If you’re looking to make the most advantage of your LinkedIn Campaigns, it makes sense to leverage the features of this tool.
Kevin Purdy of Ars Technica shared his experience with creating tiny, no-code web apps using spreadsheets. Using tools like Google Sheets and Glide – software that allows businesses to create custom tools – Purdy uses the web apps for various purposes such as managing takeout orders with easier search and filtering functions. These apps are also easy to share and can be installed on phones, tablets, or desktops. Purdy goes into detail as to how the data is sorted, highlighting the convenience and flexibility of this approach – especially for small-scale, personal projects. (Source: Ars Technica)
What can you and your employees be doing more efficiently? Is it worth hiring someone to help your workers create webapps using Google Sheets to save them time? Most of us are too busy to take the time and figure out ways that available (and low cost) technology can actually save hours of work. Purdy’s story is a reminder that having – or paying – a curious technology person can pay off in a number of ways for your company.
Each week I find five business tech news stories that impacts your business (and mine) and then explain why. See you next week!
