Former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers was named to both the AP and NFLPA All-Pro First Teams on Friday, putting a bow on top of his historic rookie season. Just three other rookie tight ends in NFL history have earned First-Team All-Pro honors, and Bowers is the first to do so since 2002.
Bowers broke the NFL records for receptions by a rookie and receiving yards by a rookie tight end, and he set the Raiders’ record for most receptions in a single season. He also ranked third in the league in receptions, eighth in receiving yards and fourth in yards after catch, all of which led tight ends this season.
Perhaps the most impressive part of Bowers’ numbers is that he accrued them with three different quarterbacks throwing him the ball and two offensive coordinators calling plays — including one that was fired after just nine games. The Raiders’ quarterback for the majority of their games, Gardner Minshew, had the second-worst QBR in the league at 38.2 and dished out more interceptions than touchdowns.
Despite his unfavorable surroundings, Bowers still delivered one of the greatest rookie seasons by a tight end ever.
Las Vegas selected Bowers with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft — a move that surprised many, considering it had traded up in 2023 to draft former Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer early in the second round. However, Bowers quickly earned the starting job, and the rest is now, literally, history.
