Viera and Cocoa Beach will play for the Cape Coast Conference championship later this week after both teams picked up wins in the bracket finals.
The Hawks defeated Melbourne 4-0 in the south bracket championship. Rod Rincones scored Viera’s first goal of the game and Tyler McMenemy-Hoang added a second first half goal for Viera. In second half, Martin Bolivar scored two goals on assists from Matthew DaSilva.
“I think the boys fought hard, stuck to the game plan, and were just resilient,” Viera head coach Nicolas Nazon said. “Mel’s a very good side. They have a history of overcoming adversity so truthfully one goal in the first 20 minutes isn’t enough to put them away, so you kind of have to just stick to the game plan and keep going after the second, third, and fourth in this instance for sure.”
Cocoa Beach won the north championship game over Merritt Island. The Minutemen will face Viera in the Cape Coast Conference Championship game at Merritt Island High on Thursday Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
