The Binghamton University School of Management (SOM) has been ranked among the nation’s top 10 public business schools for a fourth consecutive year while also making a significant leap in career outcomes. This signals how an emphasis on skills development and networking has become pivotal to enhancing the student experience.
Of the 104 schools ranked for Poets & Quants’ 2025 Best Undergraduate Business Schools, the School of Management also made the top 10 list among fully public institutions for academic experience — a category that measures a school’s ability to nurture students by challenging them while helping them grow. For career outcomes, which evaluates how the market and the world’s top employers respond to graduates when they leave school, SOM jumped five spots from last year’s ranking and placed at number 27 overall.
“While we appreciate the accolades the School of Management receives and the contributions of all the faculty and staff to promote excellence, this is really a celebration of our tremendous students,” Dean Shelley Dionne said. “We are proud to educate and inspire some of the top students in the country. They rise to the challenge every day, displaying great intellectual curiosity and, as importantly, building a collaborative culture based on mentoring and friendship.”
Poets & Quants, which is a top publication for business education news, developed its annual rankings based on data that included a school’s admission standards, employment outcomes and alumni surveys from the undergraduate class of 2022. The survey asked graduates to provide feedback on their academic experience.
This year’s rankings, which included more schools than the 91 listed last year, demonstrated how SOM students continue to evaluate their academic experience highly even after graduation.
In the years since the Class of 2022 graduated, SOM has been evolving its curriculum to include more mentorship opportunities from Day One of the program. Alumni from some of the world’s most successful companies have contributed to this by increasing their levels of engagement.
From regular alumni classroom visits to networking opportunities that stress the importance of developing soft skills that pave the way for internships or new career pathways after graduation, students are becoming even more prepared to meet the needs of an evolving business world.
These initiatives and more have already produced powerful results for the undergraduate class of 2024:
· 100% job placement six months post-graduation for entrepreneurship, leadership and consulting, and management information systems students
· 100% of SOM’s accounting students from the undergraduate class of 2024 have landed full-time jobs or pursued higher education
Student placements in front-office positions have also more than tripled over the past 10 years, and SOM’s 2024 undergraduates earn an average salary of $86,700. These achievements are testaments to the diligence of the school’s Career Services team.
Consistently ranked by Poets & Quants as one of the nation’s top public business schools, SOM has gained recognition from the Wall Street Journal by ranking among the nation’s best public schools for graduates who earn high-paying salaries in accounting, finance and marketing.
