BEAUMONT, Texas — Stacey Lewis Jr., a trustee for Beaumont Independent School District’s District Two, has announced he will not seek reelection to the Board of Trustees, where he has served as both board secretary and vice president over two terms.
During his four-year tenure, Lewis helped oversee several major initiatives, including rezoning efforts, a voter-approved Tax Ratification Election, and stadium sponsorship agreements, according to a news release.
“It has been a true privilege to serve the families of District Two and to contribute to the incredible progress that has been made within our district,” Lewis was quoted as saying in the release.
While stepping away from the school board, Lewis, who was elected in 2021, indicated his departure from public service may be temporary. “This is not the end of my journey in politics,” he said, suggesting the possibility of future campaigns. “It is very possible that you will see my name on a ballot again in the coming years.”
Lewis highlighted his commitment to representing his constituents and supporting education during his time on the board.
“I hope my work over the past four years reflects my commitment to the community and to the education of our children,” he said. “My primary goal has always been to be a strong advocate for my constituents, the dedicated educators, and the countless stakeholders who make our district what it is.”
Throughout his term, Lewis focused on implementing policies aimed at positioning the district for long-term success while addressing key challenges facing BISD’s students, teachers, and community members, according to the release.
The next board election for the district will be on May 3, 2025, for single-member districts 1, 2, 3 and 5, according to the BISD website.
