FREWSBURG — With an upset victory, Frewsburg ended Westfield’s hopes of a league title.
The Bears scored four runs in the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie and then held off the Wolverines late for a 9-8 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West win at the Robert H. Jackson Sports Complex.
After Westfield tied the game 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning, Frewsburg scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame. After a hit batter, Paige Whippo and Addison Hultberg had doubles.
The Bears (7-8, 4-8) added two singles and a walk with two outs to take the 9-5 lead.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Wolverines’ Arielle Corbett hit a two-run home run that plated Keara Kincaid to make it 9-7.

Eva Gnadzinski doubled, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Mackenzie Schumaker’s RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the seventh inning. Sydney Hotchkiss then doubled, but was stranded as a groundout and a flyout ended the game.
Teghan Trocki and Teagan Nazario combined for three strikeouts, two walks in the circle for Frewsburg. Trocki finished 2 for 4 at the plate, including a two-run double during a four-run second inning. Braelyn Stelmack and Kaylee Cappa each added two hits in the win.
Gnadzinski finished 3 for 4 with two doubles; Tanleigh Bestine was 2 for 4 with a double; Keara Kincaid had two hits; and Madyson Burgess and Hotchkiss had doubles for Westfield (12-4, 9-2).
Gnadzinski and Avery Smith combined for four strikeouts in the circle.
EAGLES CLINCH LEAGUE TITLE
SINCLAIRVILLE — Lucy Gates went 2 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs as the Chautauqua Lake offense ignited in a 20-8 Division 2 West victory over Cassadaga Valley.
Both Jillian Miller and Kinslee Motter added doubles for the Eagles and Karagan Fairbank went 4 for 5. Alexis Szumigala earned the win in the circle, pitching all six innings in which she gave up 11 hits, four walks and struck out eight for Chautauqua Lake (13-1, 11-0).
Cassadaga Valley (3-12, 1-9) was led by Emiley Anderson, who went 2 for 3, and both Mia Fanara and Andrea Johnson, who went 2 for 4. Johnson started the game in the circle and took the loss, while Catie Russell pitched the final four innings.
With the victory and Westfield’s loss to Frewsburg, Chautauqua Lake clinched the league title outright.
GOWANDA SHUTS OUT CARDINALS
RANDOLPH — Gowanda pounded out 14 hits en route to a 14-0 Division 1 East shutout of Randolph.
Addison Kota and Ella Luther each had two hits, including a double, while Corrina John, Hailey Christopher and Gracie Eddy each added two singles for the Panthers (12-2, 7-1).
Holland Browning hit an RBI triple during a five-run second inning before Gowanda added eight more runs in the fourth.
Kota threw a five-inning complete game with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Aliza Hind, Quinn Pence, Aryanna Sears and Ryanne Bushey (double) each had a hit for the Cardinals (6-5, 5-3).
The Panthers will look to split the Division 1 East league title with Silver Creek when they take on the Black Knights (12-1, 9-0) on Saturday morning in Silver Creek. The Black Knights won the first meeting 8-0 on April 26.
MARAUDERS RALLY
WEST ELLICOTT — Dunkirk trailed Southwestern 10-2 through four innings of action, but put the rally caps on in the top of the fifth inning. The Marauders scored 11 runs in the fifth and ended up pulling off a 14-12 D1 West victory at Southwestern.
Dunkirk (3-13, 3-8) was led by Chelsey Tramuto with a double, while Olivia Cole, Emma Ahlstrom and Brooke Szymczak hit two singles apiece. Kassidy Donisi ended up earning the win after giving up nine hits, walking five and hitting two batters with eight strikeouts.
Madi Burnett started in the circle for Southwestern (4-9, 2-8) and went 4 2/3 innings in which she gave up eight hits, walked seven and struck out seven. Arianna Silakowski finished the game and gave up one hit and struck out one batter.
The Southwestern offense was led by Peyton Lillie going 3 for 5 with a grand slam. Burnett tripled, and both Siri DuBois and Lexi Beckerink went 2 for 4.
