Explore the fascinating world of printmaking, mold and shape your own pigeons inspired by the Endless Pigeons Sculpture located on the Plaza, and contribute to a collaborative mural celebrating our community and the arts. Light refreshments will be served.
Come view our newest installation, Across Oceans, by Kanani Miyamoto (Native Hawaiian/ Japanese). The installation activates the facades of The Reser and The Beaverton Building and signifies the coming together of people from distant lands across bodies of water that connect, not divide us. Come enjoy the beautiful imagery that embraces our common bonds and relationship with Nature.
Participants will enjoy a one-of-a-kind hands-on workshop and learn how to pull your own collaged Mokuhanga prints with artist Kanani Miyamoto, an individual of Hawaiian and Japanese roots, who combined Eastern art aesthetics and techniques with Hawaiian philosophy to create Across Oceans, the dramatic and expansive installation at The Reser and Beaverton Building at City Hall.
All materials and tools for the workshop are provided, and pre-carved blocks will be available for attendees to experiment with. Take your prints home to create your own installation and make a few extra to add to the community installation later this fall.
Get ready to clap and stomp your feet! The Beaverton Community Band with Conductor Martin Sobelman presents a vibrant concert featuring chart-topping rock ‘n roll music from the 60s, 70s, and beyond. The classic rock genre will be highlighted with pieces from heavy hitters the Moody Blues, Deep Purple, Queen, Chicago, and more.
80s and 90s fans, don’t despair! Devotees of U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers get songs too. Less rock-oriented audience members will not be left out with the performance of Ilari Hylkila’s piece “Saga,” inspired by legends of the Middle Ages. Hylkila is described as a cinematic and passionate composer, which we hope comes across in our performance of this piece.
For over 40 years, the Beaverton Community Band has shared its music, making it the oldest standing community band in Washington County, Oregon. The Beaverton Community Band keeps the long-standing community wind band tradition alive through diverse local performances and by fostering the next generation of musicians through music education. The band’s members volunteer their time to support music educators throughout the Beaverton School District to encourage beginning musicians and build a vibrant arts community. Oregon International Ballet Academy students will create magic in a fully staged production of Prokofiev’s Enchanting, classic, Cinderella. OIBA students and ten top-level soloists will transport audiences in this fully produced fairytale, specially choreographed by award-winning Executive Director Ye Li and Artistic Director Xuan Cheng, also the Ballet Master of the world-renowned Hong Kong Ballet. Guest dancer Isichel Perez Rivero of Oregon Ballet Theatre will star in the role of the Prince, and guest actor Sarah Smith brings her immense talent to the role of the Stepmother.

Showtime Concert Series is an outdoor summer free concert series that has provided the Hillsboro community with family-friendly entertainment for more than 30 years. Historic Shute Park, the longtime home of Showtime Concert Series, has a built-in performance platform and plenty of space to lounge on a blanket or sit in low-back chairs and enjoy the music. This culturally and musically diverse series brings neighbors together for dancing and fun. Enjoy food truck fare or bring a picnic!
When Catlin Gabel acquired the OCAC campus in 2019, we committed to continue the community arts legacy of the college. We now offer a range of arts classes to adults, from those wanting to explore their talents to those who are looking to refine their skills. We invite you to explore our offerings and to sign up.
Classes include: Ceramics-Dive in Drinkware with Autumn Higgins; Photo Silkscreen Underglaze with John Driscol; Beginning and Intermediate Pottery with WiL LaBelle; Introduction to Handbuilding & Wheel with Kurtis Pitz; and Hand & Wheel, and Drawing-Ways of Seeing with Dale Rawls.
Artistic Director Nik Whitcomb of Bag & Baggage Productions, known for telling rich, classic stories that challenge the norm in new ways, adapts Tartuffe, the comedic work of 17th century French playwright Molière to the 1930s America to encourage audiences to rethink issues of race, gender, wealth, and power—all while making them laugh. “Molière is the grandfather of the modern comedy. You can really see his work reflected in the modern sitcom in a lot of ways, says Nik.
Tartuffe is presented in partnership with the City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department & Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District. While audiences can look forward to outdoor theatre in Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District this summer, they can look ahead to Nik’s second season with Bag&Baggage. The almost 20-year-old company recently announced its 24/25 season.

June Featured Artist: Denise McDonald. In addition to studying graphic arts and printmaking, Denise is a Master Gardener. Her love for the natural environment and fondness for floral and natural landscapes drew her to working with pastels. She loves the vibrant colors and the spectacular beauty of the Northwest, especially the play of lights, darks, and vibrant colors of its plant life.

Each class we will experiment with how the paint and paper and water react together. Then we will paint a simple subject incorporating this “experiment” into our work. Masterpieces are unlikely, but skills will increase. No prerequisites needed. Returning students are welcome to repeat this course. New projects and techniques will be presented in each subsequent series of this class.
Copperplate is the predecessor of the cursive handwriting most of us learned in grade school. This is still used for formal documents and invitations. We will work to become comfortable handling the pen, then tackle the alphabet, small and large letters, numbers, and punctuation. We will also play with flourishing.
The VGA mission is to: ignite the joy of learning, creating, and appreciating art in our community. We support professional and emerging artists by providing high quality affordable art education to children and adults as well as providing venues for sharing their work. Village Gallery of Arts is a non-profit (501c3) organization, receives no taxpayer money, and is staffed entirely by member volunteers.
