ARLINGTON, Va. — A fire that broke out early Thursday morning at the Crystal City Sports Pub in Arlington is under investigation after being deemed suspicious by the Arlington County Fire Department.
Firefighters were sent to the 500 block of S. 23rd Street at approximately 5:30 a.m. Once there, crews discovered flames on the enclosed patio of 529 S. 23rd Street. Thanks to the building’s sprinkler system, the fire was contained before it could spread to the main structure and was extinguished by responding firefighters.
Security footage shared with our station shows thick smoke rolling to the ceiling as the fire grew on the patio. Photos taken after the fire reveal extensive damage to the patio area, with charred debris and scorched surfaces.
As the Arlington County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated, they discovered additional fire damage to adjacent businesses. These fires are also being treated as suspicious, raising concerns of possible arson.
Crystal City Sports Pub responded to the fire on Instagram letting their customers know they remain open. “Yes, we’re open! 🔥 But don’t worry, the only fire here is in our service. Come on in and see for yourself! 😁.”
The Office of the Fire Marshal is seeking public assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact Lieutenant Wandekha Kanthula at 571-357-0769 or via email at wkanthula@arlingtonva.us.
