Amy Schumer recently revealed how hate comments from internet trolls led her to discover that she was suffering from a "shocking" health disorder.
The beloved comedian appeared on the January 22 episode of Call Her Daddy, telling host Alex Cooper that comments about her "moon face" caused her to reevaluate her health.
“A year ago, the Internet really came for me. I was like, ‘Okay, everybody, like, relax’."
Schumer brushed off the comments until she noticed doctors interjecting in the comment section.
"Doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were, like, ‘No, no … something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy’." Medical professionals warned the Snatched standout that she might have Cushing syndrome.
Per the Mayo Clinic, Cushing syndrome "happens when the body has too much of the hormone cortisol for a long time." The condition is made worse with the use of "glucocorticoids."
"At first, I was like, ‘F***k off," Schumer remarked, until she remembered a very important detail.
"Wait, I have been getting steroid injections for my scars. I was getting these steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”
Schumer publicly announced that she was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in February 2024 (per People), right after she started filming for Netflix’s Kinda Pregnant, which premieres next month.
"I learned I had this condition, and that I had something called moon face, and I’m starring in a movie — and there’s a camera right in my face. Everyone’s like, ‘You look great’." The I Feel Pretty standout unveiled that one friend who told her that her face looked "insane."
Schumer concluded by assuring that she eventually "got rid" of the disorder, and after being concerned about her appearance, was guided back to confidence by director Lorraine Caffery who assured her that she looked "f****** great."
