What’s that? A manufacturer has broken ground on a new facility near Jackson
A new Blackman Township technology park has welcomed its first tenant, with others expected to follow.
The 145-acre Jackson Technology Park North on County Farm Road celebrated the groundbreaking of Midbrook Manufacturing & Fabrication’s new facility on Friday, Dec. 6. The Jackson-based metal fabricator plans to house its company operations there, Keith Gillenwater, Enterprise Group of Jackson CEO/president, said.

Former AMC movie theater is being demolished after failed efforts to attract buyer
A former theater in Jackson is being turned to rubble and cleared to attract future developers.
The Jackson AMC Classic Plaza 8, 1700 N. Wisner St., closed in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since, the property has sat vacant, and efforts to find a potential buyer have been unsuccessful, Gerdom Realty & Investment’s Senior Associate Broker Bill McLeod said.

Hearty sandwiches & breakfast treats at Asher Creek Creamery & Deli will fill you up
While coffee and ice cream were the original hits at Asher Creek Creamery & Deli, sandwiches, soups and breakfast have been winning over customers’ stomachs.
Heather and Michael Riccardi opened Asher Creek Creamery & Deli in July in downtown Grass Lake, and sandwiches have become a staple to the menu, Heather said. Michael crafts the recipes at home and the favorites of their nine kids were selected for customers to enjoy.

Jackson’s first cannabis microbusiness opens, bringing ‘seed-to-shelf’ products
Joe Cranmore said he strives to improve the lives of others, and that led him to open his own marijuana microbusiness in Jackson.
Five Point Farms, 744 E. South St., opened Friday, Dec. 13. The facility is the first of its kind in Jackson County because, unlike dispensaries, it grows and processes its products on site, Cranmore said.

‘It’s an eyesore.’ City plans to demolish former Keeder’s Show Bar in Jackson
Melissa Burkes is among the neighbors excited to hear the city of Jackson plans to demolish the former Keeder’s Show Bar.
Burkes, 49, has lived along S. Elm Avenue by the adult entertainment venue for roughly three years. When the property went up for sale, she hoped the city would buy it, believing it’s not an appropriate business for a family-oriented neighborhood.
