SEATTLE — In this edition of "Inside the Arena," Niko and Chris look ahead to the biggest local sports event of the season: The Sports Star of the Year Awards.
Niko talks with Seattle Sports Commission President Beth Knox about the planning for this year's event which will include former Seahawk great Marshawn Lynch, Kenny Mayne, and stars from professional and collegiate sports in a new venue!
Five-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Champion Marshawn Lynch will be the recipient of this year’s Paul G. Allen Humanitarian Award presented by Microsoft. The award is given to someone who has made an impact on the Seattle-area community through philanthropic contributions or dedication to the community.
Nominees for the three Sports Star of the Year Awards categories – Woman’s Sports, Men’s Sports and Sports Story of the Year – are athletes from across Washington state “who excelled in the 2024 season as well as the storylines that captivated us in the past year.” The list includes athletes from amateur to professional, and record setters and world champions as well. Fans can vote once a day until Jan. 29.
The winners will be announced live during the 90th annual awards show on Feb. 27.
Also in this episode, Chris and Niko also talk about what's good and bad in the world of sports business, and philanthropy in the "Four Corners" and the latest on the return of the NBA to Seattle in the "Supersonic Minute.”
