Dedalus has closed its stores in Stowe and Burlington.
“We are deeply grateful to our dedicated staff, vendors, local farmers, and especially our loyal customers, whose passion and enjoyment have made every bump along the way worth it,” according to an announcement from the company last week.
In August, Dedalus wine shop on Stowe’s Mountain Road reduced its workforce and closed its kitchen amid a financial “restructuring.”
Dedalus co-owner Jason Zuliani wrote in an email to staff reported by Burlington-based newspaper Seven Days that “this decision comes from a place of necessity” as the company attempted to “to get Dedalus back on track financially by the end of 2024.”
The wine and cheese purveyor also stopped payments to all its creditors.
At the time of the initial announcement, CEO Justin Sargent told the Stowe Reporter business manager that the company had made this “difficult but necessary decision” to return the business to “stable financial ground” and promised to resume payment as soon as possible.
Sargent opened the first Dedalus location in 2007 on Burlington’s College Street and its location on Pine Street a decade later. Cutbacks have also been made at that location, along with the temporary closure of the lauded Paradiso Hi-Fi restaurant, which was connected to the Burlington building and will reopen in September after a brief closure and the departure of its James Beard Award-nominated chef, Micah Tavelli, Seven Days reported earlier this month.
The Stowe shop opened in 2020.
Dedalus also closed its Boulder, Colo., location in July and failed to open announced locations in other cities.
