In Grand Blanc Township, turnout is above the statewide total with over 35% of voters turning out early.
GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) – Election day is just under a week away, and already, over 30 percent of Michigan voters have cast their ballot.
That’s thanks to a combination of absentee voting, and votes cast during Michigan’s mandatory 9 days of early voting passed with Proposal 2 in 2022.
“The early voting was obviously intended to accommodate high turnout elections like this, and of course this is a very high turnout election with a presidential race,” said Grand Blanc Township Clerk David Robertson.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, 27.8 percent of registered voters in Mid-Michigan have already cast their ballot as of Wednesday. That includes 50 thousand ballots cast during early voting.
In Grand Blanc Township, turnout is above the statewide total with over 35 percent of registered voters turning out early.
“We’ve been very pleased to see a steady flow of citizens coming in to vote ever since we began this process on Saturday morning last week,” Robertson said.
Robertson adds that they’ve had over 2,000 votes cast during early voting in his township alone.
He says people are happy they are no longer limited to just one day.
“People do appreciate being able to vote through this method, yes. And of course people have been requesting absentee ballots as well,” he said.
Early voting continues to run statewide through Sunday and, of course, you don’t have to vote early. You can always vote on Election Day as well.
