Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Wednesday, April 24.
Dundalk 12, Hereford 7: After falling behind 4-0 and 7-2, the Owls’ offense erupted. Jayda Gilbert homered and drove in two runs. Oaklyn Johnson doubled twice, singled and drove in a run. Justice Smith finished with two hits and two RBIs. Alessa Sergi singled and totaled two RBIs.
Francis Scott Key 1, Century 0: A pitchers’ duel between the Eagles’ Jasmine Kline and the Knights’ Jordan Currie went into the eighth inning scoreless. FSK finally broke through when Lily Reiter singled home Piper Beahm for the walk-off win. Kline threw all eight innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 16. Currie also went the distance, allowing seven hits and striking out two.
Liberty 22, Winters Mill 8: Evelyn Connor had four hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs in Liberty’s big day. Kaelin Ault homered and drove in a pair, while Haleigh Hodges totaled three hits and three RBIs. Erin Martin, Allison Bald and Lucy Connor all finished with two RBIs.
Westminster 8, Manchester Valley 5: Winning pitcher Lila Moxley went seven innings, gave up five runs on six hits, walked five and struck out three for the visiting Owls. Kaitlyn Clark went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple, and Brianna Jeeter went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Westminster.
Havre de Grace 10, North Harford 2: The host Warriors scored six runs in the first inning and beat the Hawks. Sarah Weitzel (3-for-3) had a triple, an RBI and three runs scored for Havre de Grace. Winning pitcher Lillia Dalton went seven innings, gave up two runs on 10 hits, hit one batter and struck ot seven.
Long Reach 20, Wilde Lake 1: The Lightning (6-4) offense erupted in the win. Jordyn Isom and Janelle Wilson each had five RBIs, as Wilson laced three hits, including a double. Madison Wise also had a hit and two RBIs in the win. For Wilde Lake (1-11, 1-10), Allison Bickerton had an RBI single.
Centennial 7, Howard 4: The Eagles (8-4) won their fourth game in a row with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Maddie Reese went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Julia Braganca also had two hits. Lauren Jensen earned the win for Centennial, striking out four in five innings.
Glenelg 13, Marriotts Ridge 3: The Gladiators (10-1, 9-1 Howard County) used a six-run third inning to break the game open. Addie Pence and Reese Holden each had three RBIs, Pence had three hits, while Holden had two. Kaylee Brogan and Jamie Shaw each added two RBIs for Glenelg. For Marriotts Ridge (7-4), Brynne Mellady went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Pikesville 3, Eastern Tech 0: Issac Garonzik picked up the win on the mound, throwing six innings of three-hit ball. He walked two and struck out five. Tegan Hakim closed the game in the seventh. At the plate, Michael Payne had an RBI single. Ian Davis also drove in a run.
Hereford 12, Dundalk 2: The Bulls followed up their three first-inning runs with five more in the second. Willie DeSantis led the offense with three RBIs. Peyton Whittle drove in two runs. Kreis Metz, Andrew Larkin and Trayton Daggett also had RBIs. On the mound, three pitchers combined on the four-hitter.
Aberdeen 15, Joppatowne 3: Aberdeen put up six runs in the second to kickstart the offensive onslaught. Ian Walton had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and three RBIs. Jack Morrill had two hits, drove in three runs and scored four. KJ Miller finished with two RBIs.
C. Milton Wright 5, Havre de Grace 4: Down three runs in the sixth inning, the Mustangs came back with one run in the sixth, two in the seventh to tie it, then one more in the eighth to win it. Kyle Frank’s RBI hit in the eighth gave CMW the walk-off win.
North Harford 6, Rising Sun 0: Winning pitcher Andrew Tidey went six innings, gave up six hits, walked three and struck out two and reliever Matt Hart threw one inning, walked one and struck out four as the host Hawks shut out the Tigers. Colin Kight had a double and a triple and Mason French (2-for-4) had an RBI.
Fallston 5, Patterson Mill 3: Jake Plummer broke a 2-2 tie with a bases-clearing double to lift the visiting Cougars (7-3, 6-3 Harford County) over the Huskies. Plummer threw the seventh inning for the save. Starter Drew Rommel got the win.
River Hill 10, Atholton 0: Sam Antevil earned the win, pitching five shutout innings and striking out eight. The Hawks (9-4, 9-3 Howard County) scored seven runs in the third as Anderson Dang went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Henry Zatkowski was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Avi Fields also had a hit and two RBIs.
Broadneck 14, Meade 0: Winning pitcher Jack Miteff threw three innings, gave up one hit and struck out three and the visiting Bruins shut out the Mustangs. Relievers Chase Hannon and freshman Cooper Mengel each worked one inning for Broadneck. The Bruins totaled 12 hits on the day. Cade Schuetter and Mike Swick each had two doubles and Ethan Hopkins hit a solo home run and had two RBIs.
Gerstell 22, Park 5: Twelve Falcons scored in the decisive win. Carter Eberle, Sara Fenwick and Addy McIlvain each netted hat tricks in the win. Cambrie Franks, Reese Eberle, Piper Gallagher and Whitney McIlvain all finished with two goals with Franks handing out two assists. Maggie Kennedy had a goal and three assists.
Winters Mill 15, North Harford 13: Sienna Perryman scored four goals and assisted on five others to lead the Falcons to the nonconference win. Riley Dell and Reese Ormiston each had a hat trick in the win and Rowan Dorsey chipped in two goals and two assists. Cece Coco also scored two goals and Kiera Youngling had one. For North Harford, Caroline Nicholson led with four goals and Arlynn Goodman scored three.
Howard 13, Centennial 8: Brynn Bartlett scored seven goals and assisted on two more to lead the Lions in the win. Avery Graham and Jessica Vela each scored two goals and Emmie Williams added one. Graham also handed out two assists.
Mt. Hebron 20, Reservoir 4: The Vikings (6-5, 4-2 Howard County) scored 20 or more goals for the second time this season in the win. For Reservoir (7-4, 4-2), Bailey Ko scored twice and added an assist.
Long Reach 17, Wilde Lake 4: The Lightning (6-2, 4-2 Howard County) won their third game in a row as Delaney Daffan had a game-high six points (four goals, two assists). Sam Legge also scored four times and added an assist, while Alaina Norton had a hat trick and an assist.
Annapolis Area Christian School 14, Catholic 12: Skylar Sensenbrenner poured in 12 goals to lead AACS to the victory. Brooke Sensenbrenner collected seven draw controls.
Annapolis 12, Southern 11: Sadie Steffens made 15 saves and the visiting Panthers beat the Bulldogs. Annapolis got three goals from Sarah Ericson, Amelia Skinner and Brooklyn Ricker.
North County 9, Old Mill 2: Mikayla Petersen made eight saves and the host Knights beat the Patriots. North County was led by Riley Sheets (3 goals), Maggie Blanford (2 goals, 1 assist), Katie von Berg (2 goals) and Gracie Boritz (2 goals).
Loch Raven 18, Lansdowne 4: The Raiders turned a 4-2 lead after one quarter into a 12-2 lead at halftime. Sarah Watkeys led the win with four goals and an assist. She also caused five turnovers. Molly Frey, Charlotte Gongon and Lauren Gongon each had hat tricks in the balanced offensive showing. In net, Rain Shinnick made seven saves.
John Carroll 16, Notre Dame Prep 10: USF-bound Natalie Kelly scored five goals to lead the host Patriots (8-5, 7-4 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) over the Blazers (9-8, 6-6). Maryland-bound Lydia Ward and Pieper McCue each had a hat trick for John Carroll. Ward scored her 100th career goal and had her 100th career ground ball. McCue had her 200th career draw control.
St. John’s Catholic Prep 15, Fellowship of Christian Athletes 6: Maya Graham and Ryan Piccolo each scored four goals to lead the host Vikings (12-4) over the Falcons (9-5). Sarah Fowler had a hat trick, Abby Slawinski scored two goals and Lorien Henkel had one goal for FCA.
Glenelg 11, Marriotts Ridge 5: Tim Iannarino finished with a game-high five points (four goals, one assist) for the Gladiators (6-3, 6-0 Howard County) in the win. Chase Buscher added a hat trick, while Chris Iannarino scored twice and added an assist. Zach Coughlin made 12 saves. For Marriotts Ridge (4-5, 3-2), Quinn Jenkins had a hat trick, while Ian Murphy made 11 saves.
Annapolis 12, Southern 9: Gage Berry scored four goals and Grady Roberts had three goals and two assists to lead the host Panthers (8-1) over the Bulldogs (2-7). Garrett Mykins won 11 face-offs for Annapolis.
Winters Mill 11, Francis Scott Key 9: Camden Deming had a hand in eight of the Falcons’ 11 goals, scoring six and assisting on two. Andrew Owens backed him with four goals and three assists. Isaac Kolhepp also scored a goal and Ryan Ritchey handed out two assists. In net, Wes Zendgraft finished with 12 saves.
Westminster 5, Manchester Valley 0: The Owls earned the sweep with Michael Pohuski and Zian Stidham winning both singles matches. In doubles play, Michael Fronheiser and Jarom Hawes won the first line 6-1, 6-1. Aidan Cignatta and Abbott Houle, and Nishal Patel and Luke Schoberg also picked up wins.
Liberty 3, Winters Mill 2: The Lions (11-0, 10-0 Carroll County) remained unbeaten but survived their stiffest test of the season. Arjun Mistry and Hayden Speace remained unbeaten at first doubles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Louis Major won second singles and Chase King and Jayden Venable won third doubles. Winters Mill’s Micah Ober became the first county player this season to beat Nikhil Andhavarpu at first singles. The Falcons’ second doubles pairing of Landon Baker and Cole Geiman won in three sets.
Francis Scott Key 3, Century 2: Robbie Daugherty won first singles for the Eagles and the second doubles team of Evan Myers and Nathan Myers won in three sets to score the win for FSK. Carter Button and Josh Wunder won third doubles.
Marriotts Ridge 5, Glenelg 0: The Mustangs (9-0) remained undefeated on the year. Mukundh Boopathi and Rafa Feldman won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The doubles pairings of Tyler Wang and Jerry He, Felipe Arantes Gabriel and Tobi Ijiyemi and Alex Xiang and Caleb Choi each won.
Liberty 3, Winters Mill 2: The Lions swept doubles play, giving up only four total games to earn the win. Amelia Mustico and Payton Oakley won the No. 1 match 6-1, 6-2, Mia Leonhartt and Mallory Stevenson swept second doubles, and Abigail Zentner and Aubrey Anderson won third doubles 6-1, 6-0. Winters Mill’s Leah Benfer and Sara Gardner each won their singles matches in third-set tiebreakers.
Manchester Valley 3, Westminster 2: Tori Kelley and Olivia Watts won the deciding point, taking second doubles in three sets, to give the Mavericks the victory. Emily McElwaine won second singles and the third doubles team of Brylee Jones and Lily Sieck also earn a win. The Owls’ Daphee Whitmore won first singles over Katy Resh, 6-3, 6-3.
Marriotts Ridge 5, Glenelg 0: The Mustangs (7-2) earned the victory with Stella Lee and Erika Kang winning in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Maria Ottman and Christina Ottman, Mahika Juneja and Sophia Feldman and Kaylee Sinn and Sandrine Koh each won their doubles matches.
