Alec Baldwin’s lawyers allege bias as prosecutor takes back misdemeanour plea on learning of documentary on Halyna Hutchins’ by the actor.
Alec Baldwin would agree that his life has seen a total flip since the Rust case where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot with live rounds while filming. The actor has since then been charged with several cases since he is also the producer of the project. Alec currently faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting and death of Halyna Hutchins.
As the case continues, Alec’s lawyers now allege a “stunning abuse of prosecutorial power”. His lawyers claim that a favourable plea offer was withdrawn last fall due to a misunderstanding about the actor’s role in a documentary about the case. There have been reports that Alec is making a documentary about the whole mishap and has asked witnesses in the case to participate, forcing and pressuring them to be a part of it.
It was last October when Alec was offered a misdemeanour plea that would carry no jail time. But prosecutor Kari Morrissey said in a recent filing that she rescinded that offer after learning that the actor had “commissioned his documentary” about Hutchins’ death.
Concerned about what the documentary could do to harm the victims and their families, she withdrew the offer.

Alec Baldwin is facing a trial in July in Santa Fe on a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison.
In response, Alec Baldwin’s lawyers argue that this is a “bad faith” reason to indict someone, as it has nothing to do with the facts of the alleged crime, and that the prosecutor was mistaken about Baldwin’s involvement in the documentary.
The actor’s lawyers now want the indictment thrown out, alleging violations of court orders and other defects in the grand jury process.

Meanwhile, there is some truth to the conceptualised documentaries. There are in fact two in works – one from Rachel Mason, and another from Rory Kennedy. In the filing, Baldwin’s lawyers stated that he did not commission either of them.
