MARIETTA — The Ohio State Highway Patrol will hold an OVI checkpoint will be held today in Washington County, with the location to be announced this morning.
The checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers
“Based on provisional data, there were 688 OVI-related crashes in which 726 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Lt. R.C. Chesar, commander of the Marietta Patrol Post, said. “State troopers make an average 17,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
