OLEAN — Need some help getting a small business off the ground or growing further?
The Small Business Development Center at Jamestown Community College and Olean Business Development Corp. will host a small business information event from 4 to 5:30 p.m. May 1 to connect entrepreneurs with assistance from various groups.
The event will be held in The Hub, on the fourth floor of 301 N. Union St.
“We have been doing these pop-up events as a team of entrepreneurial service providers for the past 8-10 months, and this will be the first one in Olean,” said Bob Forness, executive director of Olean Business Development. “It is also National Small Business Week that week, so the timing is perfect.”
Attending groups include the Small Business Development Center at JCC, the U.S. Small Business Administration, City of Olean, Jamestown Community College Workforce Development, Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board, Pursuit Lending, Cattaraugus APEX Accelerator, Laine Business Accelerator, Cattaraugus County, Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency, and the Cattaraugus-Allegany Workforce Development Board.
No appointment is necessary, and all those interested in starting or growing a small business are invited.
The afternoon will begin with a short awards presentation in recognition of Small Business Week. The SBDC will announce the area’s Entrepreneur of the Year award. Forness noted that the winner will be eligible for the state SBDC award, which in 2023 was given to Olean’s Gardner Chiropractic.
The Small Business Development Center at JCC provides free and confidential business guidance in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. For more information, visit https://www.sbdcjcc.org.
Founded in 2013 as Family Partners Group Inc., the group changed its name to the Olean Business Development Corporation to focus on economic development in the greater Olean area. The nonprofit renovated the former Olean Business Institute building for office space for local nonprofits and small businesses, initiated the Laine Business Accelerator program in 2021, and offers co-working space in The Hub.
