Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, April 12.
Hereford 22, Lansdowne 3: Alyssa McCaffery homered in both of her plate appearances and finished with six RBIs in the win. Morgan Ford went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs. Ellie Lysse had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Aly Wegrzyn was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Emma Martin also drove in two.
Francis Scott Key 5, Manchester Valley 4: The Eagles used a three-run sixth-inning rally to keep its conference record unblemished. Down two runs, Emma Tawney led off the inning with a home run. After Jasmine Kline scored the tying run, Piper Beahm’s sacrifice fly scored Maddie Rill with the go-ahead run. Brooke Sims drove in all four runs for the Mavericks.
Century 11, Westminster 7: The Knights outslugged the Owls, putting up five runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth. Caylee Clark and Mackenzie Carver each had three hits with Carver driving in three runs and Clark scoring three. Rileigh Coyle singled, doubled and drove in a run. Tori Mackinson, Jordan Currie and Alyssa Sarver also collected RBIs.
Liberty 3, South Carroll 2: After Nicole Brosenne put the Cavaliers ahead in the bottom of the sixth, Liberty came back in the top of the seventh. Down to their final out, Jessie Shafer singled home T Hoffman to tie, then Kaelin Ault’s line drive scored Shafer for what proved to be the winning run. Sophia Steele got the win in the circle, throwing a six-hitter with five strikeouts.
Harford Tech 12, Fallston 1: The Cobras erupted for 19 hits while Abby Reed threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts. Offensively, Aubrey Gump went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Katie Burr, Emily Rapp and Shiloh Wall all drove in two runs. Mikayla McJilton finished with three hits and an RBI.
Patterson Mill 5, Mount de Sales 1: Cadence Pfistner and Kenzie Knight each hit a two-run double in the sixth inning and the host Huskies (6-0) beat the Sailors (2-2). Mandi Redmiles threw seven innings, gave up one run on two hits, walked three and struck out eight for the win.
Southern 10, North County 6: The visiting Bulldogs scored nine runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Knights. Kelly Medhurts struck out 12 in the win and freshman Jordyn Harmel (2-for-5) had an RBI and scored a run. Southern improved to 4-3 and has already matched last season’s win total.
Broadneck 10, Old Mill 0: The host Bruins had 14 hits in five innings and shut out the Patriots. Broadneck starter Hailey Adamson threw three innings before reliever Addie Cornelius closed out the game. Sam Waters had three hits, including a double and three RBIs for the Bruins.
Manchester Valley 12, Francis Scott Key 2: Liam Ziegenfuss and Nick LoPreato each finished with two hits and two RBIs to lead the Mavericks. Gene Magin and Thomas McGrew also drove in two runs apiece. Hayden Askew had two hits and scored four runs.
Hereford 10, Sparrows Point 6: Down a run going into the fifth inning, the Bulls scored five runs over the final three innings to take the win. The Bulls scored their 10 runs on just six hits. Willie DeSantis singled and drove in two runs. Liam Kopajtic had a pair of singles and an RBI. Peyton Whittle, Leighton Alsip and Ryan Larkin also picked up RBIs.
Patterson Mill 4, Bel Air 3: The host Huskies scored two runs in the seventh to beat the Bobcats. Ryan Malenfant worked 2 ⅔ innings of relief, gave up one run on two hits and struck out one for the win. Chase Cichocki (2-for-4) scored two runs and Malenfant had a double for Patterson Mill.
Broadneck 3, Old Mill 0: Kobe Owen gave up four hits over seven innings during a complete game shutout for the host Bruins. Broadneck scored two runs in the second inning and one in the sixth.
Chesapeake-AA 2, Annapolis 1: Winning pitcher Christian Spoone worked seven innings and struck out six and the visiting Cougars beat the Panthers. Jimmy Dreyer hit a sacrifice fly to put Chesapeake ahead.
Southern 7, North County 2: Winning pitcher Thomas Martin worked six innings, gave up one run and struck out three and the visiting Bulldogs beat the Knights. Martin had three hits and an RBI. Gavin Crandell had two hits and scored two runs and CJ O’Brien had two RBIs for Southern.
Fallston 19, Aberdeen 2: The Cougars spread out their offense between 14 goal scorers. Ian Swartzendruber and Greg Hoer each had hat tricks and Chris King scored twice. Jacob MacMilian, Michael Lemback, Carter Smith, Trevor Desell, Caleb Canatella, Luke Jester, Alex Arno, Nathan Chanoski, Gage McKenna, Collin Businsky and Brendan Rey all had goals. MacMillan and Canatella each had three assists.
C. Milton Wright 14, Bel Air 6: For Bel Air in the loss, Owen Conway and Devin Trzeciak each scored twice. Grant Smith and Agustis Anatasi also had goals.
Gilman 7, Mount St. Joseph 5: The visiting Greyhounds (8-2, 2-0 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) took a 3-0 lead in the first half and weathered a late rally by the Gaels (7-3, 1-2) to win. Mount St. Joe trailed, 7-2, before scoring three goals over the final five minutes. Jay Wilkerson scored twice for Gilman and Cooper Myers had two goals for the Gaels.
Mt. Hebron 19, Oakland Mills 0: The Vikings (4-4, 3-1 Howard County) built an 11-0 halftime lead. Tyler Tangires scored a team-high four goals in the win. Cooper Stockenberg had a hat trick and added three assists, while Logan Foust also registered a hat trick. Ten different Mt. Hebron players scored.
Centennial 20, Atholton 3: The Eagles (7-1, 3-1 Howard County) continued to roll. Jack Hockersmith (five goals, one assists), Aiden Krawcyzk (three goals, three assists) and Cam Westlake (three goals, three assists) each finished with six points in the win. Colby Dabbs scored four goals plus an assist, while Ryan Foy scored twice and added a pair of assists.
Chesapeake-AA 11, Glen Burnie 3: Talan Behler had three goals and five assists to lead the visiting Cougars over the Gophers. Chesapeake got two goals from Ryan Kopp and Chase Bivens. Hunter Cappe made eight saves for the Cougars.
Annapolis 12, Old Mill 3: With a strong second half effort, the host Panthers celebrated senior night with a victory over the visiting Patriots. Annapolis was led by Gage Berry and Brennan Shaffer with three goals each and Ronan Keohan and Jaeger Franz chipped in with two goals apiece. Old Mill’s William Turner scored twice for the Patriots.
Century 8, South Carroll 6: For South Carroll, Brayden Yeager had two goals and two assists. Cutter Stanton scored twice and Cayden Petrucci had a goal and two assists. In goal, Shaun Hobbs made 13 saves.
St. Paul’s 20, John Carroll 11: The host Crusaders (6-3, 2-2 MIAA A Conference) beat the Patriots. St. Paul’s has won three of its past five games.
Saints Peter & Paul 7, Gerstell 6: The visiting Sabres (4-2, 1-0 MIAA B Conference) beat the Falcons ( 2-4, 0-2). The loss was the third straight.
Annapolis Area Christian 14, Glenelg Country 12: The host Eagles (2-4, 2-1 MIAA C Conference) beat the Dragons (). The win halted a two-game slide. Tuesday, AACS host St. John’s-Catholic Prep and Glenelg travels to Mount Carmel.
Indian Creek 11, St. Vincent Pallotti 6: The Eagles (3-5, 1-2 MIAA B Conference) beat the Panthers (1-3, 0-1). The win halted a three-game slide. Tuesday, Pallotti hosts Archbishop Curley.
River Hill 13, Long Reach 8: The Hawks (4-4, 1-3 Howard County) won their first county game of the season. Gabby Bergstrom had a team-high six points (three goals, three assists) while Katelyn Sauritch had five goals. Serena Soldavin had 10 saves for River Hill. For Long Reach (3-2, 0-2), Chiara Pompei had two goals and an assist, while Alaina Norton scored twice. Ace Jeffers made nine saves for the Lightning.
Mt. Hebron 24, Oakland Mills 0: The Vikings (5-3, 3-1 Howard County) won their second straight county game in dominant fashion. Olivia Hoover had a hat trick and a game-high six assists, while Kaitlyn Magdar scored twice and added four assists. Ellie Smith scored four times and had an assist, while Ella Berger chipped in a hat trick and an assist. Twelve different Mt. Hebron players scored.
Howard 17, Wilde Lake 5: Jessica Vela (three goals, two assists) and Courtney Brooks (three goals, one assist) each had hat tricks for the Lions (3-3, 2-1 Howard County). Brynn Bartlett scored and finished with a team-high four assists, while Avery Lockwood had two goals and two assists.
Southern 15, North County 6: Emmie Mudd scored a game-high eight goals to lead the host Bulldogs over the Knights. Southern got a hat trick from Brooke Parks and Mollie Schiavone. Maggie Blanford had four goals and Mikayla Petersen made 10 saves for North County.
Chesapeake-AA 17, Glen Burnie 4: Kelsie Payne and Lexi Vosburg each had three goals and two assists to lead the visiting Cougars (5-0) over the Gophers. Other top scorers for Chesapeake included: Lilly Patrick (3 goals, 1 assist) and Jasmine Fitzpatrick (3 goals), Glen Burnie got two goals from Dakota Smith and Brynn Mitchell.
Gerstell 19, Indian Creek 1: Sara Fenwick (3 goals, 2 assists) and Cambrie Franks (3 goals) led the visiting Falcons (7-2, 4-0 Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference) over the Eagles (2-4, 0-3). Gerstell got two goals and an assist from Ridgely Anderson, Maggie Kennedy and Lauren Polk and two goals from Preslee Borek, Reilly Sullivan.
Century 12, South Carroll 5: Natalie Opatovsky netted five goals and assisted on two more to lead the Knights to the win. Marley Carfine backed her with three goals and two assists. Hannah Baglin also chipped in two goals. Leah Miller and Ava Krantz each scored twice for South Carroll. Caelin Lopes made 10 saves.
John Carroll 8, St. Paul’s 7, 2OT: JMU-bound Grace Marchetti scored the game-winner to lift the host Patriots (5-3, 4-2 IAAM A Conference) over the Gators (8-3, 6-2) in double overtime. Monday, Towson-bound Annie Minoglio had a hat trick for John Carroll. The Patriots travel to Severn and St. Paul’s hosts Valor Christian (Colo.)
Bel Air 16, Perry Hall 2: Paige Feick netted four goals while Riley Manzo and Delaney Burrows each scored three to lead the Bobcats over the Gators. Sophia Harrison chipped in two goals. Darby Doehring scored one and was dominant on draws, with eight draw controls.
Severn 8, Garrison Forest 7: Peach Wellschlager had a hat trick and Issy Leech had two goals to lead the visiting Admirals (4-6, 3-4 IAAM A Conference) over the Grizzlies (3-8, 0-8). Monday, Severn hosts John Carroll and Garrison Forest hosts Mount de Sales.
Hereford 9, Sparrows Point 0: The Bulls earned yet another sweep, In girls doubles play, Hereford lost one total game. Anna Kurtz and Athena Zhou won 6-0, 6-0, while Serena Pallan and Kiana Eshaghi won 6-1, 6-0. In mixed doubles, Blakeley Auvil and Gabbie Cheroff also won 6-0, 6-0. Singles wins came from Nadav Weisberg, Will Cogan, Julia Carrese and Ivanka Charchalis. Boys doubles teams earning wins were Richard Wang and Henry Bishop, and Lukas Everett and Matt Nawrocki.
Marriotts Ridge 4, Wilde Lake 1: Rafa Feldman won in No. 1 singles for the Mustangs with a dominant 8-0 win. The doubles pairings of Tyler Wang and Jerry He, Felipe Arantes Gabriel and Tobi Ijiyemi, and Sai Anuj Chodavarapu and David Liu each won. For Wilde Lake, Erich Taylor won at No. 2 singles.
Liberty 5, South Carroll 0: The Lions (5-0, 4-0 Carroll County) stayed unbeaten. Nikhil Andhavarapu and Louis Major each posted 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. Chase King and Jayden Venable also won their doubles match 6-0, 6-0. Arjun Mistry and Hayden Speace, and Austin Shade and Jason Murphy also won doubles matches.
Francis Scott Key 3, Manchester Valley 2: Jon Adcock picked up a win at second singles and the Eagles teams of Evan Myers and Nathan Myers, and Carter Button and Josh Wunder earned doubles victories to lift FSK to the win. Manchester Valley wins came at first singles from August Jones and at first doubles from Austin Zeigenfuse and Nick Phillips.
Marriotts Ridge 4, Wilde Lake 1: Stella Lee and Erika Kang each won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, 8-4 and 8-3, respectively. The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles pairings of Vin Badugu and Christina Ottman and Aditi Gandhe and Sandrine Roh won their matches. For Wilde Lake, the doubles pairing of Makaela Mainor and Danielle Lachard won their match.
South Carroll 3, Liberty 2: The deciding point came at second doubles, where Callie Chesney and Brooklyn Weitzel won a third-set tiebreaker. Also picking up wins for South Carroll were Sydney Mossman at second singles, and the first doubles team of Audrey Lillycrop and Caroline Altifiras. Grace Maerten won first singles for Liberty and the team of Abigail Zentner and Aubrey Anderson got a doubles win.
Manchester Valley 5, Francis Scott Key 0: Katy Resh and Emily McElwaine earned straight-set singles wins to lead the Mavericks. Doubles wins came from the teams of Talula Castanzo and Madison McGregor, Olivia Watts and Tori Kelley, and Brylee Jones and Summer Jordan.
Westminster 4, Century 1: Bella Filippi swept the first singles match for the Knights, but the Owls won the rest of the day including two doubles wins — from Ava Piluk and Gillian Blubaugh, and Tasia Sebian and Kelsey Boehm — each in third-set tiebreakers. Also for Westminster, Emma Auerbach won second singles and the team of Sophie Long and Stella Schoberg won first doubles.
