MISSOULA, Mont. – The relationship between Montana and Ireland is strengthening as both regions explore international business opportunities. IDA Ireland, the Irish government’s foreign direct investment agency, is actively working with Montana businesses to help them expand internationally and establish a European presence.
Ivan Houlihan, Head of Western United States for IDA Ireland, highlighted the potential for collaboration between Montana and Ireland. “We have similarities in terms of, agriculture, is a big industry in Montana. Manufacturing… It’s the same that goes for Ireland as well. But then we constantly monitor different states; for states that are becoming attractive for start-up companies and Montana is very much like that,” said Houlihan.
One notable connection between the two regions is the semiconductor industry, with companies like Applied Materials, which operates out of Kalispell, Montana, and Ireland. Houlihan emphasized that while there is a historic and cultural connection, the business connection remains strong and optimistic. “We’ve seen a long tradition of companies. Particularly, American companies establishing in Ireland and then growing out from that… Supplying products and services right across Europe,” Houlihan stated.
IDA Ireland aims to assist Montana-based companies by providing them with the resources to explore how Ireland can fit into their business plans and further aid their international growth.
