[NEVADA ATHLETICS RELEASE]
LARAMIE, Wyo. – Nevada Women’s Tennis won its 10th straight match, defeating Wyoming 4-1, Sunday.
The Wolf Pack managed to win without the most consistent part of the season to date, the doubles point. Leading up to Sunday’s match, Nevada had won every doubles point to start the season. However, Wyoming played well in the session, taking the top two matches. Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva won the top-flight match, 6-4 against Marlene Foerster and Silvia-Maria Costache. On court two, Eugenia Ceinos and Elena Trencheva defeated Amahée Charrier and Kennedy Robinson, 6-4. The Pack did win the third doubles match; Wiem Boubaker and Petra Janigova defeated Serina Abriola and Ruby Young, 6-2.
Lou-Anne Guerbert improved her singles record to 7-0 in dual play, defeating Mashabayeva on court three, 6-2, 6-4.
Marlene Foerster gave Nevada the lead, defeating Ceinos after two drastically different sets. Foerster won the first set in a long 10-8 tiebreaker, leaving the set as close as it could be. Foerster used the momentum to rally and win the second set, 6-0.
Charrier continued the Wolf Pack’s momentum, winning the top-flight match against Borodina. Charrier won the first set, 6-4, getting a key break to take the lead. Borodina responded with a strong 6-1 second set, but Charrier prevailed with a 7-6 (4) win in the deciding set.
The Pack clinched the match with a victory on court four from Costache. Similar to Charrier, Costache won the opening set, 6-3, before losing the second set, 6-2. Costache also won her match in a third set tiebreaker, defeating Ruby Young, 7-4 in the tiebreaker.
Nevada returns home for a pair of matches next weekend. The Wolf Pack begin the weekend on Friday playing San Diego State at noon. The weekend will wrap at McArthur Tennis Center with Nevada’s final non-conference match of the season, hosting Stanislaus State at 12 p.m.
