EAGLE RIVER, Wis. (WAOW) – Wisconsin’s Economic Development Corporation toured Eagle River, and announced they will be receiving a grant.
Eagle River was recently named the 2024 Main Street of the Year. It was this designation, along with being placed on The National Registry of Historical Places. That sparked the visit from the WEDC’s Secretary, Missy Hughes.
Hughes said, “They start to build on each other, so the community square, the building on Andy’s new barbecue shop, all of these different opportunities that we then see the community really coming to life around.”
Leaders said that people is what sets Eagle River apart. Hughes toured downtown with some leaders, to learn about the history, all while hearing about some future endeavors they may have.
The Secretary added, “Ah well everybody likes to be able to show off what they are doing. And I’m just giving them the opportunity to do that, my visit is really just to say thank you, to them for the work that they’ve done.”
At the end of the tour Hughes made a special announcement. Due to their dedication for their town, Eagle River will be receiving a small business development grant of 250 Thousand Dollars.
Hughes said, “This is a program that we’ve started to work with communities who want to support their small businesses… To support renovations of vacant spaces, or spaces that need some sprucing up. Because that way the business’ can move right in there and continue to succeed.”
Local leaders noted how Eagle River is such a unique community, the population at least triples in the summer. Building a a community for people to see means a lot to them.
Eagle River is one of 19 towns receiving this grant. The other locations will be released in the coming weeks.
