Royal Cinemas in Front Royal will show the film “Join or Die” today through Thursday. Showtimes are 1:10 p.m., 3:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The documentary explores why building stronger communities is essential to America’s future. The film follows renowned social scientist Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking research in “Bowling Alone” uncovered the decline of civic participation in America and how reconnecting through clubs, organizations and community groups could be the key to revitalizing our democracy. The film features insights from Hillary Clinton, Pete Buttigieg, former U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and stories from inspiring groups across the country working to rebuild civic engagement at the local level.
Tickets, which are $7 for afternoon showings and $10 for the evening show, are available at https://bit.ly/3k9i2D6.

Shenandoah County: Emmanuel Episcopal Church, $2,500 for its Emmanuel’s Table, which provides food to those in need; Shenandoah Valley Local Ministries, $2,500 for A Small Hand, which purchases a month’s supply of diapers for 60 babies and Luke’s Backpack to purchase food for weekend food bags for 125 schoolchildren.
Winchester: First Presbyterian Church, $2,500 for its Helper Fund that provides emergency assistance to area residents; Literacy Volunteers, $2,500 to purchase family literacy program materials for students; Love to Nic, $2,500 which provides free monthly meals to those who are homeless in Winchester.
Funding comes from a corporate contribution from SVEC and voluntary efforts of co-op members who round up their bill to the nearest dollar each month. Applications are available for the next round of Operation Round Up support at www.svec.coop/ORU.
