
The Helena Symphony will perform “Behold the Sea” at 7:30 p.m. March 22 at the Helena Civic Center, 340 Neill Ave., as part of its Masterworks series.
The performance features Debussy’s landmark “La Mer” and Ralph Vaughan William’s “Sea Symphony.”
The Helena Symphony opened its 70th season with an evening of All Gershwin Sept. 14, 2024, at the Helena Civic Center.

The Symphony, under the direction of maestro Allan R. Scott, is celebrating its 70th season.

Musikanten Montana, under the direction of founder Maestra Kerry Krebill, invites the public to join them on March 23 in a celebration of the 340th birthday of the great Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

The celebration is at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cathedral at 511 N. Park Ave.
The hourlong recital begins at 4 p.m., followed by birthday cake and bubbly. A $30 donation is suggested at the door. Reserved prime seating is always available for Musikanten Angels (annual donors of $100 and above). RSVPs appreciated at 406-431-7462.
Guest artists will join the chamber choir and local favorite collaborator Wendy Yuen in presenting an all-Bach recital, followed by a reception in honor of the German composer, and also celebrating Maestra Krebill and the numerous Musikanten and others with late March birthdays.
Guest artists are soprano Elise Dye, contralto Anne Kania, tenor Thomas Gregg, and baritones Bobb Robinson and Robert Tudor, with Baroque oboe Matthew Hudgens, violinist Joe Jewett, cellist Adam Collins and Martha Rowe, keyboard.

“Unite! A Collaboration of Choreographers” featuring Helena’s Premiere Dance Company, will be 7 p.m. March 28 and March 29 at the Helena Civic Center, 340 Neill Ave.

This performance is the result of eight choreographers setting their works on the versatile dancers of the Premiere Dance Company, from the intricate movements of classical ballet to the dynamic energy of modern dance.
Out-of-town guest choreographers include Clara Foster, Ellie Mercer and Katie Thompson. Local choreographers include Diadra Goldes, Therese Simpson, Ainsley Tooke, Julynn Wildman and PDC Artistic Director Charlene White.
Dancers from Cohesion Dance Project’s training program, the Accelerated Contemporary Experience (ACE), will present original student choreography they developed during the program at 6 p.m. March 15 at Cohesion Center, 1020 Argyle St.
The performance features new works created by the six dancers in the program along with ACE teaching staff.

Bestselling author C.J. Box will be coming to Helena at 7 p.m. March 31 at the Helena Civic Center, 340 Neill Ave.

The author, in an event organized by the Lewis & Clark Library and the Lewis & Clark Library Foundation, will discuss his works, including the popular Joe Pickett series.

For those looking for an enhanced experience, box seats are available for $10, with all proceeds benefiting the Lewis & Clark Library Foundation to support future literary programs and library initiatives.
A new comedy club, The Funny Bone, will open 7 p.m. March 20 at the Helena Avenue Theatre.

The evening includes three groups of performers.
Audience members can check out the work of students of MPN’s Winter Improv Foundations Class.
The second act introduces Improv Mining Company’s all-women short-form improv team, Boom Bust.
The headliner is longtime funny-men-around-town Improv Mining Company’s James and Errol. They have done short and long-form improv around Helena during the past decade and starred in theater productions.

Montana Playwrights Network presents a staged reading of an original one-act play, “The $1600 Birthday,” by Glenn Schiffman, 7:30 p.m. March 22 at the Helena Avenue Theatre, 1319 Helena Ave.

To celebrate his 75th birthday, a traumatized Army veteran stages a video confession about his role in a Vietnam War massacre in hopes of finally unburdening his conscience by telling his version of the truth.
Playwright Glenn Schiffman has counseled war veterans suffering from PTSD through writing workshops and indigenous ceremonies.
Grandstreet Theatre will have its annual Grandstreet Theatre Gala on March 21 in the Helena Civic Center Ballroom, 340 Neill Ave.
This year the theater marks its 49th anniversary and the announcement of its 50th season.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner and a special program and auctions beginning at 7 p.m., followed by an evening of dancing and music.

“The Children” by Lucy Kirkwood will be presented at the Helena Avenue Theatre March 28 through April 13 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays.
“The Children” is set on the coast of Britain, which has just experienced the partial meltdown of a nuclear reactor. Robin and Hazel, a retired couple who had worked at the plant, are now dealing with the aftermath. They receive a visit from Rose, a former colleague from America, who forces them to contend with their shared past and responsibilities to future generations.
