WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Saturday was a busy day on the lacrosse field with many contests on the boys’ and girls’ sides along with men’s and women’s college lacrosse.
We begin on the boys’ side at Watertown High as the Cyclones hosted Skaneateles in non-league action.
Watertown opens the scoring as Jack Adams finds a lane to the goal and connects: 1-0 Cyclones. Adams had 4 goals on the day.
The game tied at 1, it’s Owen O’Donnell in front for the score. He had 3 goals in the game: 2-1 Watertown.
Nico Spaziani tickles twine for one of his 4 goals on the afternoon.
Watertown wins a tight one, beating Sklaneateles 13-12.
In another boy’s non-league lacrosse battle in Adams, South Jeff hosted Oswego.
We pick up the action in the 2nd quarter as Chase Waite unloads a blast that splits the pipes: 12-0 South Jeff. Waite had 3 goals on the day.
Cobin O’Brien’s shot goes off the stick of Waite and in to put the Spartans on top 13-0 at the half.
In the 3rd, O’Brien finds the mark. He led the Spartans with 5 goals in the contest.
Spartans go on to beat Oswego 20-1.
On the girls’ side, a non-league meeting at Watertown High as the Cyclones hosted Jamesville DeWitt.
Tied at 4 in the 2nd, Julia Covey dodges the defenders and buries the blast: 5-4 Watertown.
Just before halftime, Amalia Netto scores off the free position: 6-4 Cyclones at the half.
In the 3rd, it’s Netto with the moves and the score; 7-4 Watertown.
Cyclones move to 3-0 with an 11-6 win over Jamesville Dewitt.
Another girls’ non-league battle in Dexter as General Brown hosted Whitesboro.
The Lions take the early lead when Molly Peckham rips yarn. She had 3 goals. 1-0 General Brown.
The Lions were down 2-1 in the 2nd when Morgan Dillenback went low to tie the game at 2.
General Brown beats Whitesboro 11-6.
In men’s college lacrosse from Canton, the 5th ranked St. Lawrence Saints hosted Vassar in Liberty League play.
The Saints score less than 2 minutes in when Ted Wilson scores from the tough angle: 1-0 St. Lawrence.
Still in the 1st, Bobby Wells connects for 1 of his 2 goals: 2-0 St. Lawrence.
Less than a minute later, Brian Souza splits the pipes: 3-0 St. Lawrence.
Zack Corsi closes out the scoring in the 1st: 4-0 Saints after 1 quarter.
In the 2nd, Wells scores on the man-up to make it 5-0.
Saints move to 11-0 on the season with a 14-5 win over Vassar.
Up the road in Potsdam, Clarkson faced off against 2nd-ranked R.P.I.
Clarkson strikes first when Matt Reilly unloads a blast: 1-0 Golden Knights.
With RPI up 2-1, Thomas Fiebich knots the score with the laser, making it 2 all.
The Golden Knights take the lead when Andrew Kearney goes top shelf: 3-2 Clarkson.
Down 4-3, Kearney scores his 2nd of the game to tie it at 4.
Clarkson ultimately falls to RPI 17-12.
In Women’s Liberty League Lacrosse from Canton, St. Lawrence hosted 20th ranked Ithaca.
The Saints down 1-0 when Jessica LaPlaca scores on the man-up, tying the game at 1.
The Saints take the lead when Morgan Arakelian finds the mark: St. Lawrence up 2-1.
Less than 2 minutes later, Liz Evans rips yarn to put St. Lawrence up 3-1.
St. Lawrence falls to Ithaca 12-7.
