The IndyCar Series has received a lot of promotion in its first season on Fox Sports. At least one drag racing star doesn’t appreciate one element of the hype.
NHRA team owner and Funny Car driver Bob Tasca chatted with Fox Sports — which also broadcasts the drag racing season — between runs over the weekend in Gainesville, Florida. Actually, it was closer to a rant.
“I should be talking about that run right now, but really, to me, I gotta call Fox Sports (out). All winter long we heard about the fastest motor sports on the planet. And I was a little confused because I didn’t see (my car),” Tasca said. “And the truth is, it’s an insult to the fans and to the drivers for Fox to go on TV and say that the fastest motor sports in the world is IndyCar.
“Come on, now. I didn’t think it was fake news network on Fox,” he added before walking off.
Tasca, who has 20 career NHRA wins, notes in his social media profile that his car has reached 341.68 mph. A Funny Car run lasts less than 4 seconds, so it’s a short burst of massive speed.
Indianapolis 500 qualifying provides IndyCar’s fastest speeds. Scott McLaughlin won the 2024 pole position at 234.220 mph over 10 miles.
