Freshman Ava Myers preforms on the floor exercise during the meet against UNC-Chapel Hill at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025. Myers scored a 9.65 on the floor exercise. NC State beat UNC 197.025-195.500.
At the Iowa State tri-meet, NC State gymnastics placed third with a score of 195.000, behind second-place Iowa State who finished with a 195.775 and first-place Denver, who finished with a score of 196.750.
NC State’s 195.000 score tied the team’s lowest total of the season as the Pack (5-7) struggled in the meet. Head coach Kim Landrus couldn’t get it done against her alma mater, the Cyclones (5-9), nor the Pioneers (12-3).
Throughout the event, the Pack didn’t stand atop the podium a single time and only finished on the podium twice. Sophomore Ashley Knight placed third on vault with a score of 9.875 and graduate Chloe Negrete placed second on beam with a 9.825.
In each of the four events, the Pack had to swallow some poor scores that added up to hurt it in the end. On vault, junior Meg Adler posted a 9.675 and on bars junior Kailee Adomaites managed a 9.625. On the beam freshman Caroline Volk earned a 9.325 and on the floor, Knight tallied a 9.200.
The red-and-white started on the beam where it earned a total score of 48.550. Adler led the team off with a 9.700 and sophomore Katie Harper also posted a 9.700 before Negrete in the anchor spot, took second place in the event with a 9.825.
Adler took the lead on the second straight event when her team moved to the floor to post another 48.550. Her score of 9.775 set a solid performance that her teammates, sophomore Elle Hadrick and graduate Krista Zultevicz followed up by earning a pair of 9.725s.
On the vault is where the Wolfpack found the most success, earning a team score of 49.125 in the event. The team got better as the event went on, with four consecutive gymnasts outscoring each other to conclude the event. Sophomore Lauren Wright posted a 9.800, Zultevicz a 9.825, Negrete a 9.850 and Knight earned her podium spot with a 9.875.
Moving to bars, the team rounded out the event, posting a 48.775. Junior Madeline Reid made her season debut as she anchored the event with a score of 9.775. It was the team’s second-best score in the event, just behind Harper’s 9.800.
The Wolfpack will look to put this meet behind it as it gears up for Senior Day when NC State takes on Ohio State. The team will honor seniors Peyton Childs, Macy Jennings, Lucy Lehman, Brooke Smead, Negrete and Zultevicz.
The meet will kick off on Friday at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
