TIM WEIGHT/FOR THE EXPRESS Local fishermen are pictured on the opening day for trout season in this file photo from 2021.
Pennsylvania’s beautiful streams are an excellent place to spend your Saturday morning.
Though trout stockings in certain areas have been postponed due to high water conditions throughout central Pennsylvania, that won’t stop many avid fishers from hitting other stocked creeks.
For information on which waterways have been stocked, visit fbweb.pa.gov/TroutStocking and sort by your county.
The following impacted stream sections will not receive trout stockings prior to opening day:
— Centre County; Pine Creek, Section 02
— Centre County; White Deer Creek, Section 02
— Clinton County; Kettle Creek, Sections 10 and 11
— Clinton/Potter counties; Kettle Creek, Section 09
The tentative schedule for these streams to be stocked will be during the week of April 8-12, pending improved conditions.
If you don’t have your license to legally fish in Pennsylvania waterways, Pennsylvania offers “Fish-for-Free” days on Sunday, May 26, and Thursday, July 4.
These days allow for any resident or non-resident to legally fish with no license. While other fishing regulations still apply, fishers will not need trout/salmon or Lake Erie permits.
According to the Fish and Boat Commission, “Fish-for-Free” days are a great way for families to “catch” the fun of fishing!
