Mad Dogs and Englishmen, a quirky joint located in the heart of Tampa’s Interbay Peninsula, is reopening Jan. 29 in new digs less than a mile from its original location.
The menu will sport some longtime pub favorites like fish ‘n’ chips and shepherd’s pie, with several new additions from Chef Jeff Clark, such as aubergine bolognese and mushroom leek pie. Other offerings include tea service, Sunday roast and traditional English breakfast on weekends.
The 6,000-square-foot space at 4914 S. MacDill Ave. provides a fireplace lounge and a Moroccan Room for community gathering, with the intention of holding events like book clubs and Manchester United watch parties. It includes a fireplace lounge and a Moroccan Room for gathering, according to a statement.
Mad Dogs was founded in 1991 by Wilton Morley and Rick “The Colonel” Craig. One of their employees over the years was a young Blake Casper, who would go on to found hospitality company Oxford Commons with his sister Allison Casper Adams. The pair own several establishments in the Tampa Bay Area including nearby Stovall House, Oxford Exchange, the Library, and the recently purchased Wright’s Gourmet House.
“This project is really meaningful because of my personal connection to the restaurant,” says Casper in a the statement. “We were very careful to honor Mad Dogs special soul that was really brought to life by Wilton in the old space. Each design choice helps tell a story, all baked in the comfort, tradition, and hospitality that Mad Dogs is known for. We look forward to creating more memories when we open our doors at our new home next week!”
