LAKEWOOD, Wash — Police ordered some residents in Lakewood to evacuate Wednesday morning after shots were fired near a business.
The Lakewood Police Department said in a Facebook post at about 10:30 a.m. that people in the area of 110th Street and 25th Avenue South need to leave the area until it is cleared by police.
Police said they were called to Pick and Pull at 2416 112th Street South just after 9 a.m. for a suspicious person.
According to police, the possible burglary suspect scaled a fence topped with razor wire onto Joint Base Lewis-McChord property and ran through a field toward a business. Investigators said the suspect fled into the business, and shots were fired just after 9:20 a.m. The people inside the business fled, police said.
Investigators believe the suspect is the only person inside the building. Police negotiations are hoping to reach a peaceful resolution.
