AUSTIN, Texas — After falling short to Ohio State and watching the Buckeyes bring home a national championship, the Texas Longhorns can start a long offseason program with one date circled on the calendar, Aug. 30.
Texas opens their schedule next season with an exciting Cotton Bowl rematch against the Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio.
The teams will look almost entirely different, as both squads have been hit with waves of players entering the NFL Draft or heading to another school in the transfer portal. Both teams will have new starting quarterbacks, as Texas looks to Arch Manning to carry the torch while Ohio State will likely bring in former top recruit Julian Sayin.
Texas will get some help in the backfield with the return of running back Cedric Baxter Jr. and Ohio State will bring back star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, but both rosters will be full of new faces.
Ohio State opens as a 4.5 point favorite over the Longhorns, according to FanDuel. Vegas, however, has these two teams as the betting favorites to bring home the title next season.
It will be the second year in a row that Texas has to travel up north to play a defending champion from the Big 10. Texas beat Michigan in September following the Wolverine’s championship victory last year.
