ST. LOUIS — It’s Oscars season!
Nominations for the 97th Academy Awards are set to be announced on Thursday, Jan. 23. The announcement was originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17, but was pushed back twice due to the California wildfires.
So which films and performers are most likely to compete for Hollywood’s most coveted prize?
5 On Your Side’s Annie Krall and Gold Derby Academy Awards expert Tariq Khan sat down to preview the nominations.
Gold Derby is the leading awards-focused website in the show business industry, and Khan is one of its most prominent contributors.
For Best Picture of 2024, Khan named “The Brutalist,” “Anora,” “Conclave” and “Emilia Perez” as the titles all but certain to make the list. He also expects big box office hits like “Wicked” and “Dune Part Two” to show up in the field of ten nominees.
Khan also named his predictions for Best Actor, Best Actress, Supporting Actor and Actress. He explained there could be some “snubs” in those categories as others may sneak into the nomination lists.
You can watch the interview on 5+ at 7 p.m. Tuesday and again after 5 On Your Side at Noon on Wednesday. Download the streaming app for free on Roku, Amazon Fire TV or Apple TV.
