Uncertainty remains around key issues for New York City with Donald Trump returning to the White House.
The president-elect has expressed openness to finding ways to end congestion pricing.
“If there’s a legal avenue for President Trump to kill congestion pricing, I’m confident that he will,” Staten Island and Brooklyn Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis told NY1 said.
“It’s true, the Trump administration could flip sides and oppose it in court, but hopefully the courts will still uphold that the process was approved appropriately,” City Comptroller Brad Lander said.
In recent days, advocates and faith leaders discussed ways to educate immigrant New Yorkers ahead of Trump’s promise to carry out mass deportations.
“We estimate there are 500,000 New Yorkers out of the 8 million plus of us who would be at risk if trump starts mass deportations,” Lander said.
During a City Council hearing Thursday, the city’s Migrant Affairs commissioner said he’s working to make sure all city agencies understand the city’s sanctuary laws.
Lander also said he will be paying close attention to see if there are any changes in federal funding for the city with Trump back in the White House.
“For the city budget itself, about $9.5 billion comes from the federal government,” he said. “That’s money for our Department of Education, money for that Health and Hospitals Corporation, money for affordable housing.”
