John Gordon Casali has been honored with emeritus status by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. The title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university.
Casali earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Tech and served as a faculty member for the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering for 42 years.
While serving as the department head, Casali proposed and procured the John Grado Endowment for naming the department and secured two additional endowments for the Harris Manufacturing Laboratory and Manufacturing Systems Integration Laboratory.
Casali also received noteworthy recognitions for his research accomplishments in human hearing and acoustics, including the Outstanding Hearing Conservationist award and two Best Lecture Awards from the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA).
Blacksburg native Caitlyn Scaggs has announced the launch of her new business, Connect 936, which combines her passion for people with marketing, branding, and business strategy services.
Scaggs is a former patrol officer with the Roanoke County Police Department; a former spokesperson and associate vice president for Radford University; and a regular guest on WDBJ7 as part of the Mornin’ Motivations segment.
She also established Blue Mobius Marketing, which was later acquired, and worked for New Hope Girls, an anti-trafficking nonprofit.
Scaggs was recently named to The Roanoker’s 40 Under 40 List for 2025.
