Brody Jenner recently spoke about his relationship with his dad, Caitlyn Jenner, sharing the current state of their bond after years of estrangement.
According to E!News, Jenner’s mother, Linda Thompson divorced Caitlyn (then Bruce) in 1986 when Jenner was just a toddler. The Hills alum opened up about his troubled history with Caitlyn on Wednesday’s (January 15) episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
"I’d randomly see him—’him’ at the time—you know, here and there. But, mom would tell me that I would write on cards, ‘Why doesn’t dad call me on my birthday?’"
Jenner continued, revealing that his father was never around that much to begin with, but came around even less after meeting another woman.
"I had an incredible mother. Father, Bruce, at the time, wasn’t around that much. They split, and then he met a woman. She had kids as well. The woman that he met … they had kids together."
The "woman" Brody Jenner is referring to is none other than Kris Jenner, with whom Caitlyn went on to have children Kendall and Kylie, as well as stepchildren Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe Kardashian. Brody, now a father himself, assured that he is "living" for his 17-month old daughter (whom he shares with fiancé Tiarah Blanco) and that he’s "gonna do the exact opposite of, as far as being there for her, as my father did for me."
Despite feeling "abandoned" by his father for so long, Brody gave Caitlyn some credit, disclosing that she was going through a lot when Keeping Up With The Kardashians was filmed, and that having constant camera attention made their chats feel "very invasive and not very genuine."
Caitlyn recently reached out to her son to apologize for being absent all those years, and the action went a long way with Brody.
"Just recently, I got a real, sincere apology. It was the first time in my life that I’ve ever gotten an apology. You know, I’m sorry for not being there, and honestly, it meant a lot."
