Demolition crews ripped apart an old high school sports stadium Wednesday.
The North York site is the future home of a new state-of-the-art regional indoor sports center.
The former high school bleachers were the first to be knocked down. A concession stand will be next, followed by the dugout.
Sometime this summer, a groundbreaking will be held at the site.
“I want York County to be proud that they have a state-of-the-art fitness event center here that can be used by the community,” said Jeff Inch of Inch and Company, which is the developer.
The facility will include a turf field for football, lacrosse, baseball, soccer and field hockey.
It will also house 16 volleyball courts, eight basketball courts and pickleball and tennis courts.
The center is expected to boost the tourism economy.
“Any type of class A facility we can build to put into our tourism inventory and arsenal is really a benefit to York County,” said Kevin Schreiber with the York County Economic Alliance.
The developer said the complex is expected to generate close to $2 million in annual tax revenue. He also said the complex will have a $19 million annual economic impact on York County.
The project is expected to be finished in late 2025 or early 2026.
