Daniel Alan King
Daniel Alan King, aged 73, a cherished patriarch, community leader, and decorated veteran, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, in Buffalo, New York. Born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky on August 23, 1951, to the late Alan and Helen (Watson) King, Daniel’s early life was marked by a spirit of service and dedication that would define his years.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Dawn (Ossman) King, and leaves behind a legacy through his children, Alan (Jennie) King and Katrina Garza; stepchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Kelley, Keith Gerzegorzewski, Erin (Drew) Ransom, and Adam Ossman; and his treasured grandchildren, Nena, Paul Jr., Breanna, Nadya, Morganne, Alyson, Jason, and Kinsey; also his siblings David, Mark, Ed, Edie King and Susan Bower. Also mourning his loss are his many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who found in him a steadfast presence.
A proud alumnus of Brocton Central Schools, Daniel’s path led him to a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Army, from which he retired in 1991. His commitment to serving others extended to various roles within his community after his military tenure.
Daniel devoted his life to public service, exemplified by his leadership as the current president of the Brocton Fire Department, his active participation as a Mason, his diligent work as a Village of Brocton Trustee, and his tireless efforts as a board member of the Chautauqua County Fair.
He was a man of diverse interests and simple pleasures; from cheering on the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees to unwaveringly supporting Brocton basketball games, both home and away. Nothing delighted Daniel more than quality time with his family, exploring new places, partaking in the thrill of playing the lottery, and indulging his passion for travel.
Daniel’s life was a testament to the love he bore for his family and his community. His guiding hand and indomitable spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Brocton and Portland Volunteer Fire Departments.
