• The Knights of Columbus Council 17028, Saint Philip The Apostle Church is sponsoring a basketball free-throw competition on Jan. 18 for boys and girls ages 9-14. • Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley will be the featured guest at the United Disabilities Services Foundation Gala on May 8 at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square.Barkley will sit for a fireside chat-style interview, conducted by Eagles insider Dave Spadaro, as part of the event. Also, there will be an exclusive meet-and-greet session with Barkley prior to the gala. Raffle tickets to be sold through March 31 will give 10 winners access to this part of the event. • Runners and hikers are invited to participate in the 14th annual Lancaster Group of the Sierra Club’s Polar Bear 5K Trail Run/Hike on Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. in Lancaster County Central Park. Participants also may bring their dogs (on a leash) to run or walk with them. Unique prizes and colorful ribbons will be awarded, including to the overall top three male and female finishers; the first, second and third place winners in numerous age and gender categories; and the first three finishers (any age group) who race with their dogs. Special door and dog prizes also are presented! Race day registration and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the park’s Pavilion 22 (Kiwanis Lodge). Registration fee is $30 though Jan. 5, and $35 from Jan. 6-Jan. 18, including race-day walk-ins. Each participant will receive a commemorative mug. • Free squash court time is being offered at Lancaster Country Day School, 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster. Rackets, balls and goggles are available to borrow, but indoor court sneakers with non-marking soles must be worn. • The Lancaster Inferno will hold its inaugural Kicking It Forward Gala, featuring legendary soccer announcer JP Dellacamera, on Feb. 1.
