Youth basketball and volleyball players can take their skills to the next level in 2025 with programs and camps hosted by the Gold Crown Foundation.
In the winter training series, basketball players between fourth and eighth grades can enjoy the high-level wisdom of Don Showalter, a 10-time gold medalist coach for USA Basketball. The camp runs from noon to 3 p.m. on Jan. 2 and 3 at the Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood.
Showalter was the head coach of the USA men’s U16 and U17 teams from 2009 to 2018 and has been a high school and youth development coach for over 40 years.

The camp is meant for more competitive boys and girls players from feeder or club teams and focuses on physical fitness, conditioning and scrimmages from one-on-one to five-on-five. It costs $95 per player and the deadline to register is Jan. 1.
Another youth development basketball league tips on Jan. 23 and runs through Feb. 21 for boys and girls in second through eighth grades. Registration is $170 per player and includes a jersey and ticket to a Denver Nuggets game.
There is also a prep development basketball league season that runs from Jan. 20 to Feb. 17 for high schoolers. Registration is $190 per player and games are on Monday nights.
The second season of the winter volleyball league begins on Jan. 21 and runs through Feb. 18 for fifth to eighth grades. Registration is $175 per player and games are on Tuesday nights.
The competitive basketball league for fourth through eighth grades begins Jan. 6 and runs through March 2. Games are on weeknights, Saturdays and Sundays, with registration costing $220 per player. Players must be on an existing team to compete.
According to the website, players who can’t afford camps can apply for scholarships for financial assistance. The site says the Gold Crown Foundation will “never turn a child away from participating in a Gold Crown program for financial reasons.”
